WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am an architectural and interior designer based in Los Angeles with experience living and working around the world.

From concept to construction, I work at many scales including retail, hospitality, residential and restoration of historical buildings.

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

Design runs in my family, I’m a third generation architectural designer and see the world through a lens passed down by my father and his father. They inspired me to pursue a degree in Architecture and right after I worked for one of the largest retail/commercial architecture firms in the world. I then moved to Los Angeles and started doing smaller scale architecture and interior design to really hone in my design skills at a studio specializing in hospitality and restoration projects. I am now a lead at that studio and take on my own work as well.

FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR FIELD, WHAT DO THEY USUALLY LACK?

Organization, structure and thoroughness to ensure a project is executed on schedule and within budget.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

Two residential projects, two hotels, renovation of two commercial buildings and restoring a Richard Neutra house in Silverlake. See more here: www.alexandracadiz.com

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

My style is classic and timeless with an edge - taking the elements of a building and using that as inspiration to make the space feel like it always belonged but is still relevant today.

WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?

Music and painting!

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

Our political climate.

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HOUR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

Chasing people - I spend a lot of time following up with vendors, contractors and subs for bids, quotes, etc so it would be great to have someone do those tedious tasks so I can focus more on design.

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

Trust your intuition. You don’t have to force anything or put so much pressure on yourself, just follow your gut and whatever you’re interested in in the moment and it will put you on the right path.

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

Technical business admin items like how to write better contracts, set up budgets more efficiently, etc.

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

Any sort of architecture/interior design projects from restaurants & hospitality to residential & retail.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?

Most of the clients I work with already have a great eye and are very design oriented so it makes my job much easier and enjoyable when they see the true value in what we’re creating.

WHAT IS YOUR RATE?

It depends on the project size, scope and duration. However I usually charge a flat fee broken down into three payments - one at the project commencement, one at the end of design development and one at the project completion.

HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?

An email describing your project to: alexandrascadiz@gmail.com

HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?

I think it’s really important to be out in the world seeing other built projects and spaces. When I travel I spend a lot of time going to different hotels, restaurants, retail shops and museums. I also love to reference books for inspiration instead of relying on social media and pinterest.
