I am a designer and founder of the Be Real Podcast. While I am formally trained in architecture I dabble in many creative fields such as graphic design, writing, copywriting, editing, visual branding, interior design, music and podcasting. The common thread that runs through all these projects is my love for storytelling; taking complex ideas and transforming them into a visually compelling, easy to understand and high quality final product.
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
1. Grew up in five countries
2. Took countless music, art and design classes growing up – I was always getting up to some creative mischief.
3. Went to Architecture school and learned what it means to tell a story and effectively communicate abstract ideas.
4. Worked at one of the largest retail/commercial architecture firms in the world and learned how to manage several projects at once, meet tight deadlines and work with international clients.
5. Re-evaluated my life goals and realized I want to pursue a path with more meaning and purpose behind it. So, I started the Be Real Podcast to find out how other millennials have achieved this and are doing work they love.
FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR FIELD, WHAT DO THEY USUALLY LACK?
Communication skills. A lot of people have good ideas, but a good idea is worth nothing if you can't effectively communicate why it's great and convince someone else that it's worth their time.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I am moving yet again! This time to LA, where there are more sunny days, creative opportunities and less people wearing Northface than in Seattle (where I currently reside). So, I am working on finding a job and an apartment in the Los Angeles area.
I am also continually working on Be Real, a podcast I created and host where millennial creatives and entrepreneurs share how being real with themselves led to a more meaningful life. The goal of the podcast is to inspire millennials to take control of their lives, pursue work they love and make a difference in the world.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
My style is ‘subtle boldness.’ I am not a loud, in your face person, but when I speak I do it with conviction and confidence. This is reflected in many of my creative projects and can be seen in the Be Real Podcast. From the visual branding, color palette, copywriting and graphics, to the way I conduct my interviews and create social media content – I always aim to deliver a strong message in a subtle, measured demeanor.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
Music. I have been writing and playing music since I was a kid, but I am so busy with other things that I don’t get to do it as often as I like. I want to record an EP within the next year, I already have the whole concept and vision thought out so I just have to do it!
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
Moving away from architectural design and into a creative field where I can do more of what I thrive in: concept & visioning, visual branding, content creation, writing, design, presentation and working with people (not sitting at a desk staring at Autocad all day).

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
I would go back to high school and tell myself not to be so caught up in other people’s expectations of me. I was a perfectionist and over-achiever who never failed anything, so I could have benefited from being a little more adventurous.
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
Starting a business. I am well-versed in the creative side of things but don’t have much idea of what it takes to get a business off the ground in a lean and efficient way.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Something in visual branding, digital media, content creation, assistant art direction, writing, editorial work, event production or related fields. I have creative and technical skills (such as the Adobe Creative Suite), but I am also extremely organized, quick to take initiative, self-motivated and a fast learner.
WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?
Working for a company that values good design and is creating more than just a product but has a deeper message/mission they are putting out to the world. I would love to be part of a small team, learn from and be challenged by people that inspire me.
WHAT IS YOUR RATE?
I was earning about $21 an hour at my previous job as a junior architectural designer. That rate or more would be ideal.
