Danielle N. Kramer
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I also develop and produce filmed content for television and digital platforms. My areas of expertise are in comedy, music and short films. My goals are to help people connect with memorable experiences, and most importantly, to have fun.
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
My road was certainly winding, but it lead me to exactly where I belong. I studied fine arts in undergrad which gave me a strong visual design background and helps me to better communicate with artistic collaborators. My masters was in information science where I learned PR, marketing, licensing, research and professional communication. I studied comedy writing at Second City which lead me to becoming the Program Director at Nerdist Showroom at Meltdown Comics, one of the most popular comedy venues in Los Angeles. For the last four years, I was a Development Executive and the Director of Events at JASH, a comedy network founded by Sarah Silverman, Reggie Watts, Michael Cera and Tim + Eric, where I produced hours of entertainment that I am very proud of. To stay current and inspired, I watch a lot. I listen. I read. I see live shows. I feel lucky to have worked with so many incredible creatives over the years.
How do you stand out in your field??
I work hard. I expect others to work hard for me. I speak up. I communicate clearly. I encourage collaboration. I try to ensure quality control without being micromanage-y. Most importantly, I have good taste. :)
When producing any project, I ask myself three questions: 1) What makes the audience happy? 2) What makes the talent happy? 3) What makes the crew happy? If you make the experience as enjoyable as possible with your passion and enthusiasm shining through, they all might just want to come back again and again.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I am currently freelance producing, looking for creative projects and programming roles that will excite and challenge me.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
I do! My pinnacle achievement is JashFesht, a three day festival we threw in the Palm Springs desert where we made amazing memories with everyone involved. The programming included so many of my favorite comedians, musicians and filmmakers. The artistic designer perfectly captured all things vibrantly strange about Jash. The desert landscape under the blanket of stars was truly magical. The fest so perfectly encapsulated my aesthetic, taste and vibe. You may have missed it, but you can find photos online with a quick search.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
Nothing makes me happier than throwing a successful event.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
I have been with the same company for so long, my biggest challenge is opening up my freelance network. So here I am, getting the word out!
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
I love having someone who is passionate to learn helping me execute and organize. There are so many elements in events that need delegated, which just so happens to be the best way for a scrappy new producer to learn the ropes.
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
I would have said, “Danielle. You’re too damn loud to work in a library.” I learned many transferable skills in grad school, so I don’t completely regret it my past profession as an archivist, but it certainly would have saved me quite a bit in school loans.
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
Building a business. I would love to own my own something-or-other someday. Perhaps business is what I should have gotten my Masters in.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
I know I should be more flexible, but taste is so important to me. I work in a creative field, so I would like to work on projects that I would watch or attend myself. Passion is so important when you’re working this hard. I want to focus on producing and programming comedy, music and indie film projects.
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
I want to work with energetic people who love what they are doing. It feeds the creative process and makes it enjoyable to come to work. Equally important, open and honest communication is essential.
WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?
HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?
Email me! Share any info you can provide about yourself and the project or collaboration.
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
Go. Out. Side.
