Audio Engineer / Musician
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I'm still looking for my place in the audio industry, but I have a well developed, diverse set of skills that make me prepared for anything.
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
I started learning violin at age 3, and I picked up choral singing at 12. My whole life I've been completely obsessed with music, TV, and film. Naturally, I decided to go the audio post-production route in order to combine my love for all things audio and entertainment. I recently received a B.S. in Music Production and Recording Arts from Elon University.
HOW DO YOU STAND OUT IN YOUR FIELD?
I love working with other creatives, learning what their vision is, and being the person to help them realize their vision. I am well versed in music, completely confident in a recording setting, and I'm able to work quickly on editing and mixing projects.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I'm a recent graduate, and I'm looking for a great beginning opportunity in the world of audio. I would love to record and edit podcasts, play violin or sing background vocals on someone's track, or even be a musician's recording and mixing engineer!
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
I love taking on challenging projects. One example of this would be when I was a recording and mixing engineer on a 9-minute saxophone quartet piece titled, "Jesus Is Coming" by Jacob TV. The piece itself is quite difficult to perform, and recording it with the full quartet at once and the correct tempo changes took a lot of musical understanding, pre-planning, and tempo mapping on my part. My recording of this piece is available on my Soundcloud!
WE ALL HAVE MULTIPLE SKILLS OR WORK IN VARIOUS INDUSTRIES, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD FOCUS ON MORE?
Audio Post Production. Specifically, I would love to be able to really hone my mixing chops as I would love to be a re-recording mixer one day.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
It's frustrating to not have access to a lot of recording equipment or a studio. I'm looking to expand my own collection of gear, but gear is expensive!
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
I love cooking, but it would be super nice to have a personal chef who plans all my meals so I wouldn't have to think about it. That would free up a whole lot of brain space.
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
Don't be scared to ask more questions in order to understand something better.
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
I would love to be able to shadow a big-budget action film re-recording mixer for a day. Summer blockbuster action movies always have a lot going on sound-wise from the score to dialogue to sound effects and foley. I think it would be such a valuable experience to be able to watch a professional work on such a large-scale project and take notes on how they manage so many different audio sources.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
If you need audio recorded or edited, I'm your girl.
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
For audio engineering, I would love to have a project description with a description of what work you would need me to do. For music performance, I would love to hear a demo, be sent sheet music, or even be given the chance to write violin or backing vocal parts myself.
WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?
$25 per hour for recording, editing, and violin or voice performance.
WHO IS A CREATIVE THAT HAS HELPED YOU ELEVATE YOUR WORK?
I had the amazing opportunity to intern in Cartoon Network's recording studios, and I learned so much from every single person I talked with there.
HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?
Email me with any questions, work offers, or introductions!
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
Continually crave knowledge.
