Josceline Marie Bonneville
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I work with clients on independent scripts, creative blogs, and providing professional editing on self-published novels.
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
I graduated from Chapman University with my MFA in Screenwriting, in 2016. I obtained a strong knowledge in film and writing, after working for the Newport Beach Film Festival as the executive assistant and copywriter, as well as working with Women in Focus during my time at Chapman. Before and after graduating, I worked for Darling Magazine as a creative intern & FabFitFun as a creative assistant which inspired my dual love for editorial. I also spent time discovering new outlets as a freelancer and found that editing novels, curating wellness newsletters, and writing independent scripts were great additions to my career path.
How do you stand out in your field?
My creative strength and work ethic comes from being well-versed in film, creative writing, and editorial design. I have a strong intuition on writing about emotion and relatable experience - which is why the characters in my stories and wellness newsletters stand out to readers. I find intrigue in writing about our fears, vulnerabilities, and passions - which is what I find important to include when developing a story. Along with my writing, I also have a strong eye for clean simplistic design that provides a gravitational appeal to a viewer, which has helped my growth in styling editorial and product photos.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I am currently writing my first novel - a compilation of my wellness newsletters, as well as developing a full-length feature film script. I am also working with my creative partner in crime, Naohmi Monroe, on a new agency we hope to launch soon providing services in creative direction, on-set production, and social media management.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
When it comes to my creative writing and screenwriting, I am a big believer in the human connection. I write about stories that I know people can relate to and find themselves wrapped in because of similar situations they encounter. It's all about feeling. When it comes to style and design, I would definitely describe mine as French minimal. I have a huge admiration for the classic Audrey Hepburn vintage looks.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
I would like to focus on writing as much as possible as well as creative directing editorial work. I spent a lot of time figuring out what type of creative I wanted to be internally and outwardly, and these are two of my main career goals.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
I think the amount of opportunities for creative writers can be difficult to come by in today's marketing/tech world, unless your a copywriter or resume builder, etc. Publishing & developing physical writing content is not as popular. But that is something I hope to help bring back.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
Write down every new idea that pops into my head! I'm always making lists of business ventures and goals.
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
To not be afraid of jumping out of my comfort zone in college. Go live in Europe or Tokyo for a year, and start writing sooner.
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
I would like to know more about what it takes to produce a film festival. While working on my career as a writer, in the future I hope to create something new such as a festival or design a coffee table magazine.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Right now I am open to opportunities in writing with a focus in film and editorial. I hope to learn as much as possible as a writer in each of these areas to better fulfill my growth as a creative writer and designer.
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
My dream job would be working in the film business or at a well-known magazine, as a writer or designer. I admire collaborating with entrepreneurs and creatives that are excited about innovative ideas and I hope to learn from industry leaders who provide valuable mentorship.
WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?
Pricing or salary range depends on each project or position. I'm definitely open to talking about details! Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?
I would love to grab a coffee! Let's talk over the phone, email or even text! I am excited to meet you and collaborate!
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
I make sure to notice even the small things in life. Anything can be a special inspiration.
