Adam Eastburn
Q What do you do?
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
Grew up as a design heathen at a tech startup. Made my millions. Now I just lay around… bored.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
I’m a dad, so my jokes are on another level.
My work is thoughtful, playful, and fresh. Experience in-house and as a freelancer.
Leading and following.
Worked collaboratively with all types of industries
Think as a designer but make work like an artist
Q What are you working on right now?
Gifs, short animations, music videos, stories, comics, small brands, book illustrations, illustration libraries, and lots of ads
Q What’s your style?
You tell me. Check out my website
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
I wish I could focus on the most creative and beautiful ideas. Wherever that fits in, works for me.
Q What is frustrating you right now?
Not enough time in the day or funding to bring all of my ideas to life right now.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
Find me the funniest memes and fetch me Flaming hot Cheetos. And catch me up on K-dramas I’m missing.
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
I would’ve told myself to just invest in bitcoin. When? As a baby. Why? I would’ve been a billionaire baby - aka Boss Baby.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
Some experts I’d enjoy talking to about creativity: Zaha Hadid(RIP), Diebedo Francis Kere, Satoshi Kon. Maybe Dali.
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
Every project is an opportunity. But anything involved with a smarter, sustainable future.
And maybe to play my own devil’s advocate, I’d like to spend some time making work that no one needs to see. The “fluff” of life that gives way to new ideas and trends. The crazier the better.
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
Ideal client: My mom. Job: A finger painted Thanksgiving “hand turkey”.
I’ve worked with all sorts of people and love every new interaction. It’s ideal when the art and brand come first, or when the marketing and messaging has been thought through so nothing gets in the way of the creativity.
Q: What is your rate?
My rate is $175/hr, but I estimate out every project individually. Estimates depend entirely on scope. A rough estimate: for a 1 minute animated short it could be 20 to 80 hrs+, and for a short looping gif it could be 4-20 hrs+. Illustrations are typically faster.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Email or DM is fine.
Let’s just talk about your whole idea first and then go from there.
Q Who is a creative you admire?
Jack Cunningham - animator, nice dude
James Noellert - takes his time to make good work
Hellavision Television - the future of animated television
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
I travel a lot. I’m always making something new. I make sure to love my wife and kids.
