Q What do you do?
Currently, I work at a sustainable beauty company managing their professional social platforms and creating digital content and strategy. Basically, I'm on Instagram 24/7 🤠
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
I moved to New York 3 years ago with no job and no place to live 😵-- just a desire to chase my passions and figure out what gives me purpose 💡... I worked as a nanny for 2 beautiful kids in Park Slope, on the sales floor at a vintage jewelry shop in Chelsea, as an intern for a menswear line in the Garment District, as a social media manager in Industry City... before finally finding my groove as a digital content producer!
Q How do you stand out in your field?
Have you heard of the phrase "love is not a pie"? The phrase comes from a famous short story written by Amy Bloom, and it essentially challenges the idea that there is a finite amount of love a person has to give. I see talent in the same way, if the pie were the working world. There are countless talented, capable, creative people in my field -- talent is not a pie 🥧 I stand out by leading with empathy, staying true to my values, and prioritizing collaboration over competition.
Q What are you working on right now?
I’m one of those people who has 3 side hobbies happening concurrently at all times. Haven’t decided yet if that’s a good or bad thing 😅 Right now, I’m trying my hand at being a content creator for myself (rather than for a brand) and also studying up on UI/UX design! Follow me on my journey @parkechoy on all platforms 💃
Q What’s your style?
Colorful, bold, graphic.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
I’m constantly curious and want to learn everything! Can’t tell if this is a good or bad thing either 😅 I’d love to focus more on the world of social media, specifically how to create genuine environments and safe communities in platforms inherently designed to make us feel dissatisfied.
Q What is frustrating you right now?
The biggest thing I’m dealing with right now in this digital age is hyperchoice. You know how it takes you forever to decide what to watch on Netflix because there are just too many choices? That’s kind of how I’m feeling with my career 😵 It’s super exciting that there are so many opportunities and connections forming in new, innovative ways but also pretty overwhelming when trying to figure out what you want to/can do and a challenge to not compare yourself to everyone you see on the internet.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
I'd love to have a personal chef (although to fairly value their work, I feel I would have to pay a lot more than $20/hr... but please let me have this theoretical moment) 😋
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
Dear 2019 me: No one will believe in you if you don't believe in yourself. The worst thing that can happen is they say no. Take up space. Ask for what you want. Work for what you want. Keep going!
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
I’d love to hear from women about their journeys in the corporate world, how they got to where they are today, how they broke into their industries, and how they figured out what it was they were meant to do (do you ever figure this out?)
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
I'm open to full-time opportunities, freelance work, and anything in between ✨
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
I love collaborating with mission-driven brands and businesses, especially those working to be more sustainable/ethical/inclusive. I appreciate when they have a clear project objective but give me the freedom to explore creatively 💚
Q: What is your rate?
My freelance rate is $75/hr. However I am flexible depending on the client/project scope and am more willing to work on a sliding scale with BIPOC businesses and individuals based on budget and need. At the moment I am not actively looking for full-time roles but if there’s a wonderful, life-changing opportunity you’d like to tell me about, I’m all ears!
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Just drop me an email at parkercho21@gmail.com 🙏 I would appreciate a little background on who you are and what your needs are and I’d be happy to discuss specific scope and budget once we have connected. (Podcast recs are always a great bonus, I’m always searching for new listens!)
