Q What do you do?
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
I’ve been an art and design fan for as long as I can remember. I’ve always felt I’d eventually find my way into the design world. In my early twenties, I worked at a small local business, and at the time, they didn’t have a website. I’d been dabbling in learning how to design and code, so I put my skills to the test and made them one.
Looking back, the website was basic, but they were happy it solved a few issues. Seeing their satisfaction with their new website gave me the confidence to explore design and web development seriously.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
Being a front-end web developer and designer, I have a unique blend of analytical and creative thinking skills. These two skills allow me to work directly with multiple aspects of a project.
Q What are you working on right now?
I’m currently working on designing and developing a Shopify website. I’m also working on marketing my design studio so that I can connect with more aligned clients.
Q What’s your style?
I would describe my style as clean, minimal, and functional. I draw a lot of inspiration from other design forms, such as architecture and interior design. Aesthetics aside, I try to keep myself honest, open, and aware of what I’m designing/developing and who it’s for.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
Since most of my work is digital/web-based, I’d love to work with print more. I love to read and collect books, so I often browse used bookshops on and offline. I like to see how book and magazine catalogs were designed in the past and compare them to how they’re designed today.
Q What is frustrating you right now?
Finding a good work-life balance. I often feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
I’d hire someone who could handle the business/marketing aspects, such as client acquisition and contracts. That would free up mental space and allow me to focus on the creative process.
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
When I was new to design and development, I wish I could have told myself to slow down. It’s impossible to learn and do everything at once. It’s better to take time to explore your interests and find what you’re good at. You’re on your own timeline, so don’t be too hard on yourself.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
Ways to improve web accessibility/inclusivity for end users. It’s something that’s often overlooked. I’ve gotten better with this over time. However, there’s always room for improvement.
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
I’d love to work with and build long-term connections with brands and individuals I align with. I’m looking for website design, development, and print design projects.
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
My ideal client/collaboration would be with brands, artists, designers, or non-profits. I want to work collaboratively with my clients to provide them with deliverables that fully represent who they are.
Q: What is your rate?
Pricing can vary from project to project and depends on the scope/complexity. I like to get a good idea of what my client is looking for, their budget, and their timeline to determine a price.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Send me an email! at contact@studiono17.com. I’m always interested in hearing new thoughts and ideas. Let's see how we can bring them to life.
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
Spending time in nature.
