SIMONMILLER is seeking an freelance Knitwear Designer to join our small, highly collaborative Design team. Reporting to the VP of Design, this is a hands-on role for a designer with strong knitwear experience, exceptional taste, strong creative instincts, technical fluency, and a commercial mindset.

What You'll Do:

  • Assists VP of Design in concept, market/trend research, fabric and trim development, color and print direction to fit within the brand aesthetic for SIMONMILLER collection and collaborations

  • Contributes original, thoughtful, and detailed design work that is intrinsic to brand DNA and works well with contemporary price point through sketching, draping and assimilations and is comfortable presenting their ideas both conceptually and technically

  • Assist in sourcing and developing knit samples, lab dips, and other development materials

  • Work with Technical Design team to fit and develop new designs

  • Create initial development techpacks - technical flat sketching, construction call outs, key measurements, reference images, full size layouts, CADs, trim information, etc. for factories to make samples

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining presentation boards both in studio and digital for knitwear portion of collection

  • Assists VP of Design and Creative Director in styling for wholesale photoshoot


Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design or related field

  • Minimum 3 years of industry experience

  • Strong understanding of the apparel design process from concept to product

  • Knowledge of knits and woven construction and functionality

  • Strong flat sketching skills

  • Must be a team player, collaborative and works well in small team environment

  • Flexible, adaptable, and steady under pressure

  • Extremely detail oriented, excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines

  • Must be organized, motivated and can work well autonomously

  • High taste level for style, trend and color

  • Must be highly proficient in: Photoshop, Illustrator, and Excel

  • Willingness to learn procreate and FIGMA
