"Don't Burn Out" Candle x DWC
"Don't Burn Out" Candle x DWC
Breathe in, breathe out, and ease into your day with this reminder that you deserve a darn break.
With each purchase, you’re supporting the women of the Downtown Women’s Center (DWC), who are either experiencing homelessness or are formerly homeless. As an LA-based team, the fight to end homelessness has felt overwhelming. But these women have shown us that through social enterprise, we can extend our design skills and community to make a direct impact!
Hand poured by the women of DWC. Glass vessel with soy candle wax. 10oz. 3.25 inches tall.
The world needs to see, hear, feel your vision, and sometimes that takes a long time to figure out.
So while yes, we don't want you to burn out... we really don't want your inner light to burn out!
Scent Notes
In creating the scent for this candle, we got to know Penney Manning — the DWC Scent Master. She told us, “I never thought I was a creative person until I had this job. And now I get to be creative everyday.” Here’s what she came up with:
Palo Santo
Promotes clarity and concentration.
Saffron Tobacco
Saffron releases serotonin, while tobacco brings a sense of calm. Together, they can reduce mental fatigue.
Vanilla
Encourages relaxation and stress relief like the amazing human bean you are.
How does social enterprise work?
A social enterprise is any business that looks beyond profits and revenue in order to serve a social or environmental good. In our case, we didn't just want to give out money, we wanted to hire the women of DWC build a better future for themselves. And so, by purchasing this candle, you’re not just helping women transition out of homelessness, but you’re also supporting a creatively fulfilling work environment!
Why the DWC?
Along with the Downtown Women’s Center’s many programs, one stood out — MADE by DWC. This social enterprise program exists to help women break the cycle of homelessness through employment. As the women work in the program’s three businesses (like their candle shop!), they gain income and job training opportunities as well as the support and tools needed to succeed. Exactly the kind of women-led business we say hell yes to!
