Yes, Switch to an Instagram Business Profile!

Yes, Switch to an Instagram Business Profile!

Here’s why —

We created our Instagram Content Planning Courseto help you strategically plan and create content for social.

Strategy starts with data 📈 and that’s why we recommend switching to a Business Profile. Or at minimum, a Creator Profile.

✳ FYI: When switching accounts, Instagram Insights does not pull historical data on your posts & stories. It will start collecting data once you switched.

If you just switched, totally OK. We found that students wanted to know what stats to look out for beforehand... even if they didn’t have any data yet.

The Breakdown

If you want to use Instagram to strategically grow, you gotta have a Creator or Business profile.

Here's a quick breakdown of each account type and their advantages:

Personal

Best for who want to... keep things personal! This is the standard account type.

Choose this if:

  • You want to keep your content private.

  • You really don’t care about stats.

Creator

Best for influencers who do paid partnerships. However, influencers can also setup a Business account.

Choose this if:

  • You want the features of a Business account, but don't operate under a traditional business model.

  • You're trying to build your community and brand partnerships.

  • You want to tag brands directly within a feed post.

  • You want more granular daily follower analytics. Currently, Business accounts only pull weekly data!

Business

Best for brands & businesses who want robust tools to grow on social.

Choose this if:

  • You want access to Instagram Insights, Instagram Shopping and allll those nifty growth tools.

  • You want to make Instagram a top revenue generating channel through shoppable posts and yess — paid ads!

  • You want to auto-publish and connect to 3rd-party app integrations (EX: Scheduling tools like Later, Planoly or Dash Hudson).

  • You want to quickly ideate & experiment with content – and use Instagram Insights to back it up.

So, Creator or Business account? There’s no right answer about which account type is best for you. Instagram’s Creator and Business accounts are almost identical in features now, but a Business account with the added perk of connecting to the Instagram API (i.e. so you can auto-publish, schedule & see more analytics) seems to take a narrow lead.

OK, how do I make the switch?

Switching+from+an+Instagram+Personal+Profile+to+a+Business+Profile.png

It’s really easy, we promise! See this step-by-step guide on how to switch.

  1. On the Instagram app, go to your profile page.

  2. Click the Settings Gear on the top right.

  3. Scroll down to the section under the Account heading that says Switch to Business Profile.

  4. It’ll then redirect your screen and walk you through an additional step-by-step process to make the switch.

You can always switch back to a personal profile from a business profile if you decide you don’t love the features. Just go to your profile page, click that gear icon, and under account settings, select, “Switch back to Personal Profile.”

Don’t worry so much about your Facebook page unless you want to grow that as well. Instagram just needs you to connect back to it for internal reasons since Facebook owns Instagram, yada yada. :P

FAQs

I want to take your Instagram Content Planning Course. What type of account do I need to take the course?

Thanks for your interest! 💖You can take this course with any account type (Personal, Creator or Business), but to get the most out of the course material, we recommend switching any Personal account to a Business profile or Creator profile before you enroll. Why? Well, we'll be using Instagram Insights in the first part of this course, which like we said above, is currently only available under those account types. For example, Lesson #2 is Instagram Audit time! We dive into your post insights to see what data we can use to help build out a content plan.

Ack, what if I haven’t posted yet?

If you’re a new business and/or don’t have any existing content, that’s totally OK. We find that students who are new feel prepared before they start because they know what data to lookout for. Then, they’ll go back and do the worksheets once they have more post data.
