Q What do you do?

I make videos and animations and 3D renders for a broad spectrum of clients. I love doing content for live events, but it’s unlimited.

I have worked on broadcast graphics, 3D content, product motion design, etc for clients in the entertainment/ tech/ sports industry.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

I went to art school (ArtCenter College of Design) and studied motion design. I joined a club there called Themed Entertainment Association. We visited a lot of studios and eventually from that I got an internship with VTProDesign where I learned projection mapping, 3D content and all kinds of new technology.

Q How do you stand out in your field?

I’m really adaptable to any project. I can figure it out no matter the medium. I love problem solving and I’m not afraid to take on something unknown.

Q What are you working on right now?

I’m currently shortlisted for a lighting installation for a public tunnel in Glendale, CA, and working on a few 3D renders for a fine art exhibit. Before that, I worked on VFX for a video with Boston Dynamics.

Q What’s your style?

I tend to go for a little bit cheeky, boundary pushing aesthetic. I made a bright pink 3D pretzel that i think represents me well. www.carolinemarks.net

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

I really want to do more public art installations and get into some galleries.

Q What is frustrating you right now?

I’d love my own physical studio space, it’s hard to make the kind of projects I want in my tiny apartment.

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

Clean my apartment.

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

Just make the thing you want, not what you think other people want to see.

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

I might want to talk to the guy behind the space invader tiles. They are so cheeky and funny and make me smile when I see them in the wild. He’s really creative and daring.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

I’d love to do more public work, like an installation in an airport. But I’m open to anything. If you need content for your TikTok I can help with that too.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

I have a few. One would be 3D printing my designs for a show in a fabulous city, like kyoto. I’ve been making headwear for models so it would be a fashion show with them walking down the runway wearing them. Another would be CNC-ing a big sculpture for an underwater art exhibit so it can be there forever and help the reef re-grow.

Q What is your rate?

I usually go with hourly, 85/hr for most projects.

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

www.carolinemarksstudio.com for motion graphics. www.carolinemarks.net for art projects. Just email me caroline.marks.studio@gmail.com and include budget!
