Q What do you do?
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
Growing up, my mother was a professional photographer and taught me her ways from a young age. I developed a love of photography through her teaching. I would then go on to work in several restaurants throughout my youth; working closely with chefs and restaurant owners instilled in me an importance to mind every detail and create with intention. Later on, I merged my love of food and photography into one. I was fortunate to have chefs I had previously worked for allow me to come in and take photos of their dishes. Since that point 10 years ago, I have gone on to shoot for many more chefs, restaurants, brands and publications.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
My work is clean with a nod to editorial and telling the story of a brand. I enjoy collaborating with my clients in order to match the aesthetic and feel of the story they are wanting to tell.
Q What are you working on right now?
Launching my digital marketing agency so that I can offer my photography along with several other services to help my clients succeed in the digital world.
Q What’s your style?
My perspective is to always make the subject of my photos truly shine - always be the star and never get lost in the photo. I love to utilize lighting methods that bring out the true texture and color of the subject, it gives the photo a tangible feel.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
I would love to focus more on set design and styling - luckily there are so many super talented stylists out there to collaborate with!
Q What is frustrating you right now?
I am currently looking for assistance to help offload the time consuming tasks of digital asset management, portfolio refreshing, etc.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
I would love to have an assistant! Someone to help me with admin tasks, organizing files, etc.
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
I wish I would've told myself that it's perfectly okay to be forward and direct about the kind of work you want to do. That it's okay to say no to work that does not align with your style.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
I would love to talk to a business coach with experience working with photographers to get more insight about managing my time so that I can stay inspired to shoot and run a successful business.
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
I'm looking to work with more commercial clients in the upcoming year. I would also love to collaborate with chefs wanting to build their brand or creating cookbooks!
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
I love to work with clients that have a clear vision, understand that the creative process is collaborative and are communicative with their feedback. I always aim to keep my sets as fun and joyful as possible allowing for an open environment to create some magic!
Q What is your rate?
My rates for photography vary depending on the specific requirements of each shoot, encompassing factors like production, licensing, and individual needs, and I'm always happy to discuss with the client to provide the most accurate estimate possible.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Reaching out via email or my website works perfectly for me - please include any information regarding scope of the project (shoot type, amount of final images needed, budget)
Q Who is a creative you admire?
Julia Stotz, Jennifer Chung and Ren Fuller are several very talented photographers that I admire.
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
I get away from the screens! I love taking a long walk to get the creativity flowing.
