Q What do you do?
“I’m the founder and designer behind Orbit Creative Studio, helping businesses build their brand from the ground up. I create visual identities, logos, colors, fonts, and design systems, while also shaping strategy, messaging, and how they want to be seen.”
I design and build websites, marketing materials, and manage digital content like social media and campaigns. Basically, anything a customer interacts with, I make sure it looks professional, feels intentional, and connects with the right audience.
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
I’ve always been drawn to creativity, problem solving, and helping people, combined with a love for technology and understanding how things work. I started in graphic design without knowing much about brand strategy, but over 15 years of freelancing, agency roles, and media work, I found my groove in building brands that go deeper than visuals. For the past five years, I’ve been running my own studio, creating purposeful, strategic design for clients across Australia.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
I’m still finding my groove, but I really love building genuine relationships with clients. I champion their business as if it were my own, focusing on trust and understanding their goals. I know design is a big investment, but when it’s done right, it has a real impact and lasting value.
Q What are you working on right now?
I’m currently working on a couple of exciting brands I can’t wait to showcase—a Caravan brand and a MC/Celebrant, both doing things their own way. I’m also servicing long-standing design clients and working on improving the studio itself, building better processes to make everything more streamlined.
Q What’s your style?
Oh, what a question! I don’t think I have one set style, each project is tailored uniquely to the client. I do love injecting personality into brands and pushing them slightly out of their comfort zone to give them a bit of an edge, whether through identity, tone of voice, or visual direction. My website and Instagram showcase my latest work and are the best representation of my approach.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
I have a long list of things I’d love to focus on. Lately, I’m craving getting off the screen and into something messy, whether it’s a wild hike, gardening, or painting again. I just bought some pastels and am excited to dive back into art—wish me luck!
Q What is frustrating you right now?
Bookkeeping (sorry, Sharon!). I’m trying to dedicate half a day each week to the “business” side of things. I enjoy it, but I get so caught up in creating. I also want to tweak my client process, but it’s tricky to do while clients are actively in the pipeline.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
Honestly, I’d hire someone to take care of all the little design jobs, exporting brand assets, tidying up my Dropbox… basically sorting out my client files (they’re a total mess). I’d probably have to pay them more than $20/hour for that chaos, but it would be so worth it!
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
Sounds corny, but I wish I could tell my younger self to believe in myself more and to value my time and expertise. Also that it’s totally okay to still be learning and growing.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
I’m lucky to have an amazing mentor, so I’m already working on these things. She helps me tackle impostor syndrome, figure out pricing, and smooth out processes, basically making the business work for me, my goals, and my lifestyle, rather than the other way around. I didn’t go into business to have it take over; I did it because I love it and want it to fit seamlessly into my life.
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
I’m a sucker for anything print, so I’d love projects that involve packaging, print collateral, or anything that brings a brand to life off-screen. I’d also love to collaborate more with agencies and designers, I get a bit stir-crazy working solo sometimes! I’m especially drawn to tourism, hospitality, food, and nature projects. The dream? Working on a tourism guide or a cookbook.
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
I’ve been so lucky with the clients I’ve worked with. Relationships are really important to me, so my ideal client values my time and expertise and is ready to invest in their business, idea, or brand. I love being part of that exciting phase in someone’s business journey.
Q: What is your rate?
I like to tailor my pricing depending on the project and budget, as I understand every client’s needs are different and I want to make sure they get the most value. As a guide, my branding packages start at $3K, websites from $2K, and other design jobs are priced per project.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
You can reach out via the contact form on my website, email me directly, or if you’re on Instagram, send me a DM!
Q Who is a creative you admire?
So many creatives I admire, but one standout is Tess Robinson from Smackbang. I’ve loved her work since uni - clever, thoughtful, and always well executed.
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
I stay creative by soaking it in wherever I can. I love cooking, reading, exploring the world, and, of course, getting inspiration from Pinterest.
