Q What do you do?

I am a professional website designer. I make people look legit online.

My days are spent on calls with clients, in sketchbooks, in Adobe software and Squarespace, and occasionally touring the Internet collecting little pieces I fall in love with.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

I designed my first logo in high school and my first website in 1999, hand coded. I was working at my first design agency by 20. In my twenties, I went back for a design degree, swerved into fine arts, and spent a decade painting while still freelancing and doing agency work.

When my son was born, I stepped fully into Sprint Websites. Since then I have been building websites for wonderful people with great ideas who run small businesses and make their communities turn.

Q How do you stand out in your field?

Clean, professional and timeless over trendy.

Q What are you working on right now?

Squarespace websites for a garden designer, a writer and a coach.

Brand work for two different construction companies.

A design day coming up for a psychologist.

Q What’s your style?

Professional, clean, communication first. The occasional client says "more colour!" and I am in my element. But every project starts the same way: this is the client, this is the audience, how do I bring this to life?

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

Tough one, I definitely have made that choice with website design. I guess getting back into painting. I have wanted to experiment with painting murals in my house!

Q What is frustrating you right now?

Managing it all. I'm grateful to have a steady flow of work, but occasionally it feels like a tidal wave. I'm getting better at bringing in other designers when I need them.

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

Accounting :(

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

No regrets really. I have enjoyed taking online courses to work on my skills, maybe finding those courses earlier on. I love learning and the communities I have found through them. Working from home can at times be a bit lonely, so finding your people, even online, can be a comfort.

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

I'd love someone to look at where I am and help guide me to the next step. A design business coach. Someone who has been in my spot and figured out how to do it with fewer hours and less stress.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

Website designs or redesigns. I also build brands.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

A travel agent messaged me the other day and I got excited about that one. I am also getting a lot of fractionals lately as the business world shifts. I also love working with coaches. They've been consistently kind and bring wonderful energy to projects.

The work my clients do is important. They are often solopreneurs or small businesses. I love helping a restaurant stand out amongst the chains. Helping a local used bookstore get online. Designing a website for a boutique, female-led funeral home so she can compete with larger funeral homes. I like a good underdog and I like how these people contribute to their community.

Most of my clients just need to look as professional as they actually are in real life. I cannot tell you how many times someone has said, “You made me look legit,” when they see their website for the first time. I've also seen some tears in those calls when they finally see themselves and the work they do reflected in their site.

Q: What is your rate?

Website pricing:
Small: $3,500+
Medium: $5,500+
Large: $10,000+
Branding packages and designer days available.

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

Send me an email! A few sentences about what you need and a ballpark budget is plenty. We'll have a call and see if we're a good fit.

Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?

Reading, travel, being in nature. Taking songwriting courses. I am constantly inspired by my son. Kids are so naturally creative.
