Timia Lewis
Q What do you do?
I start off by creating a brand identity (think logos and color and tag lines and ethos) and then move on to extensions of the identity (like packaging, web, environmental). I actually do a lot of stuff outside the usual scope of graphic design (illustration, web development, copy, etc) so I add “multidisciplinary” to my title.
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
When I was in college, I worked as a residence hall desk assistant. We were allowed to do anything while we worked so I took the opportunity to learn web development. That led me to falling in love with graphic design, switching majors, and switching schools. I freelanced my way through school and have been freelancing ever since.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
In the words of the magnificent Lindsay St. Clair of Bubble Skincare:
”I've worked with Timia for over a year. Not only is she an extremely talented designer, but she's extremely reliable and proactive. She's also a fantastic communicator. I can't recommend her highly enough!”
Q What are you working on right now?
A lot of branding and packaging and some hush hush personal projects.
Q What’s your style?
Curious, Clever, Considered, Colorful
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
I’d love to work on more food and beverage projects!
Q What is frustrating you right now?
This year, I feel like most of the projects I do are in the skincare industry - but that's mainly what my portfolio shows. I'd love time to update my portfolio with more diverse content.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
Marketing and client acquisition, please.
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
I would take that time machine, go back to my college years, and tell my younger self to spend as much time on my design instagram as possible before the algorithm changes and before hashtags become obsolete. It was so much easier back then.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
Building a brand studio! Further down the road, I’d love to have more help on the administrative side.
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
I really love working with startups, but rebrands also make me really happy. I work specifically with retail, direct to consumer, restaurants, and hotels.
Current Bucket List:
book store, candles, bed and breakfast, snack food, tea
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
Industry shakers, dreamers and doers, and overall nice folks.
Q What is your rate?
Branding projects typically start off at $6,500. However, I try to be more flexible with pricing for solopreneurs and startups. Pricing can vary project to project, so feel free to reach out with questions.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
By sending me an email (hello@timialewis.com) and telling me about their project and business.
Q Who is a creative you admire?
Sarah Beth Morgan - She’s an illustrator and animation director with a very cool style. Her use of color and texture is *chef’s kiss*.
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
By doing lots of DIY projects and learning new things!
