Q What do you do?

Often described as an “onion” with many layers, I bring end-to-end ecommerce experience across email, SMS, website strategy, copywriting, design, product photography, and even full-cycle video production (pre- through post-production, including work for retailers like Target). That range led me to specialize in email marketing, where I build journeys that turn first-time buyers into loyal, returning customers.

I help DTC brands grow customer loyalty and lifetime value through high-performing campaigns, intelligent automations, and compelling storytelling. My work has driven up to 40% attributed revenue from email (industry avg. 20–30%) and as much as 159% year-over-year campaign revenue growth.

Always focused on long-term retention, brand affinity, and sending emails that actually work — you know, the kind you’ll want to open.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

Like many teens do, I got my start in retail — moving from sales associate to manager — before discovering email marketing during an internship at an engineering firm. From there, I joined a tech accessory company where I did a bit of everything: web coordination, copywriting, designing, packaging, product photography, videography, and of course, email marketing. That led me to an ecommerce agency managing four DTC brands at once, until I had my a-ha moment: I wanted to help (even more) brands directly. Now, as a full-time freelancer, I get to do exactly that!

Q How do you stand out in your field?

I get ecom, not just email: Shopify quirks, subscriptions, Klaviyo flows, & what makes customers convert.

Q What are you working on right now?

I’ve been working with a CPG company as their email marketing strategist, copywriter, designer, and ecommerce coordinator (further proof of being an onion). They create sustainable, compostable home essentials that make life simpler and kinder to the planet. My work has even been featured in Fast Company’s “No longer startups, these 5 brands are moving into growth mode” for campaign success. I also partner with an entertainer in the same capacity, managing the site and building campaigns that connect directly with fans.

Q What’s your style?

My style is playful, witty, approachable, digestible, with the flexibility to shift into a more serious tone when needed. I’ve been told I’m one of the only people in the company who really gets Gen Z humor (as a millennial, I’ll take it), which makes it fun to connect with different audiences at once. If you want a feel for my style, check out the case study or even better — subscribe to the newsletters I create!

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

Videography. I'm no pro, but I've always loved the process of conceptualization, filming, and editing.

Q What is frustrating you right now?

Trying to put myself out there…but hey, progress!

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

I love what I do, but I’d really love someone to cook for me (and do the dishes, please).

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

Stop overthinking it. Trust your gut & go for it.

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

With email, it all comes down to human psychology and why we behave the way we do. I’d love to pick the brain of someone who knows how to pick other people’s brains.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

Freelance/Contract Email Marketing and/or Ecommerce Coordinator

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

I’ve loved working in the CPG space and I’m open to fashion or other industries as well. Above all, my ideal client values and trusts my expertise.

Q: What is your rate?

Most of my work is on monthly retainers starting at $6K, but I’m also open to hourly or project-based work in the 5–15 hours/week range.

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

Email me at: heyhihello@kaylarozales.com

- Where you’ll need my help
- Preferred arrangement (monthly retainer, hourly, or project-based) + budget
- Why you think I’d be a good fit
- What you’re into right now (icebreaker!)

Q Who is a creative you admire?

Loving the work over at Friends Everywhere Agency!

Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?

Sometimes I step away from the screen with a quiet walk — no music, just me and my wandering thoughts. I’ve also recently picked up my first instrument, the violin, to flex a whole new side of my brain.
