Micah Warren
Q What do you do?
“I make your stuff look good, whether it’s laying out the artwork for your new album, illustrating your new book, or designing a logo for your small business.”
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
After treating my art as a side hustle for many years, I recently sold my handyman business to pursue full time creative work.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
I strive to bring playful, retro-inspired aesthetics into modern settings.
Q What are you working on right now?
I'm currently working on a rebrand for a boutique guitar pedal company. This includes new logos, packaging, and pedal art.
Q What’s your style?
I got my start as a professional artist designing concert posters. I was very inspired by the San Francisco posters of the 1960s. Although I am capable of working in many styles and mediums, this is still where I feel the most comfortable.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
My first love is music. I would do that full time if I could but there's no money in music these days.
Q What is frustrating you right now?
Self promotion. Every creative has to be a self-marketer now and sometimes it seems like that takes up more time than the actual creative work.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
I'd love to be able to never look at social media again. If I could pay someone to do all of that for me I think it would greatly improve my quality of life.
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
I think if I could go back in time, I would have embraced digital art earlier. Although I still prefer the feeling of pen on paper, working in digital often makes the whole process easier for functional art.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
Finding regular work can often be a challenge. It seems to be feast or famine and I'd love to find a way for it to become more consistent.
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
I love functional art. I want to design things that people will see on the day-to-day; things you can hold in your hand; things that inspire you to explore what's inside.
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
I love to work with clients who truly value aesthetics. People who appreciate timeless design as opposed to jumping on the latest trend.
Q: What is your rate?
It really depends on the style and scope of the project. I'm pretty flexible so feel free to reach out!
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Emails are best. Send me a rough outline of the project, timeline, and budget and we can go from there.
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
Stay curious.
