Q What do you do?
“I am an Art Director and Designer with an eye for detail, mood, and meaning.”
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
I studied graphic design in school, where I learned to balance my point of view with the craft of design. After college, I worked at a couple of branding agencies, and then spent five years working in-house for Delta Air Lines as an Art Director. My experience has spanned many fields, and because of that, I’m flexible and bring a wide range of perspectives to being a creative in 2025.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
By holding the tension of having a distinct point of view and being highly collaborative with clients and collaborators. Strong opinions loosely held.
Q What are you working on right now?
I’m currently creating a custom deck of cards that will serve as business cards for a brand experience agency, developing a brand identity for a tea brand, art directing the video content strategy for an agency I rebranded, and preparing to begin the branding process for a toothbrush brand. I also just finished designing my first fully custom Shopify site. I love the ownership and variety that come with working for myself!
Q What’s your style?
I view every project as an act of curation. My eye was shaped by the tension and beauty of growing up between cultures, which gave my work a rare sensitivity to context, mood, and detail. Whether orchestrating a visual system or styling a scene, I search for the element that turns design into atmosphere—something you don’t just see, but feel.
Two recent projects on my website that embody this idea are the Missoni shoot and the Marinaia brand identity.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
I love being on set as an art director—I’d do it every day if I could. The camaraderie and the opportunity to collaborate with experts across so many disciplines is truly unmatched.
Q What is frustrating you right now?
I’ve been living in different cities for three months at a time to figure out where to move next this year, and not having a real office has made it hard to get into a consistent workflow at times.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
Administrative tasks for sure. Responding to emails, sending out invoices, scheduling calls, etc!
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
Now that I’m freelancing, I think I would have told myself to make the leap sooner, but at the same time I don’t regret any of the experience that led me to this moment.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
This question is hard because there are so many rabbit holes I could go down. I think my top two would be:
Talking to someone who has opened a hotel that serves as a cultural hub for their community.
Talking to a production designer who builds sets for movies.
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
Before going full-time freelance, I mostly worked on photo and video shoots as an Art Director at my previous job. I want to continue taking on that kind of work independently. I also love working with CPG brands and would love to dive deeper into hospitality brands.
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
If there is mutual respect, an openness to collaboration, and a hunger to push the creative, then we’re on fertile ground for an ideal project!
Q: What is your rate?
My hourly rate is $100/hr and my project rates vary so feel free to reach out.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
You can learn more about me on my website mirunatalpas.com and email me at heymiruna@gmail.com with a short intro and we can plan a phone call from there!
