I took the Graphic Design Course because I had been taking a couple of freelancing gigs while also working as a full-time graphic designer for other studios, but never really felt like I honed in on my own creative process or had any set business practices. So I really wanted a sort of launching pad to help me start freelancing full time! Plus, I just wanted the confidence to know that I was on the right path!

During the Design Process section, I learned that I actually love taking risks with my work! I tend to second-guess my work sometimes, but during Section 2 I really got the chance to just push myself through the process, and I felt like the riskier my decisions felt-the more fun I was having, which in turn, made the final product more interesting.

My favorite part about the course? I mean, it was definitely entertaining! But I especially loved the mindset checks sprinkled all over the course. I feel like as graphic designers, we sometimes have to go through these mental battles within ourselves just to put our work out there, so it was nice to have the constant reminder that it's ALL part of the process, and at the end of the day, nothing is ever THAT serious.

My advice to someone thinking about taking the course is TAKE IT! Seriously though, be prepared to commit to your work and ideas 100%. Make sure you're your own cheerleader, and let the impostor syndrome walk alongside with you on your creative journey, but never let it lead the way!

One good thing that’s come out of the course for me is that I feel like I actually know what I'm doing as a creative now, AND—huge for me—I actually like showing people my portfolio!
