For as long as I could remember, I've been writing, originally beginning with poetry & screenwriting- which I still do- as well as website and newsletter writing. Copywriting has been something that has piqued my interest for years, but I never found a program or course that would teach it through a more creative, engaging lens until ilovecreatives.
With the state of the job market in recent years, combined with feeling tired of the mundane nature of my current job and the desire to fulfill passion projects and possibly freelance, I found ilovecreatives and took a chance at the courses offered here-particular Video Creator Course and Creative Copywriter Course. Copywriting is something I felt like I had a skill for, but needed a course with stability and structure that would teach me both the basics and beyond, while allowing me to practice prior to putting myself out there freelance-wise. I really want to include this form of writing in my career as a creative and this was the first stepping stone and motivation I needed to do so!
I learned a lot about my thought/ideation process when I was working on my portfolio, as well as pulling together dream clients that I'd love to work for/with one day. It really helped me narrow down what my interests are as well as my process of creation—creating the homepage hero copy, working on SEO tactics & marketing tactics- all things that I have heard so much about but finally began to understand firsthand how I interpret them- kinda like a "what would I do?' type thing, which I really found valuable. I also learned more about what I want to continue working and brushing up on as far as my writing goes-always wanting to get better and stronger in writing.
I had to be really patient with myself throughout the assignments because it was important for me to really digest all of the information I was being offered. There were multiple times in which I wanted to immediately jump in and create xyz but didn't have enough foundation to build upon, or when I was creating email copy, I had to be patient as the copy ideas came to me.
My favorite thing about the course were the videos of course! I always love the animations or video themes across the different courses. They make it very soothing to my neurodivergent brain and help me focus more. I also found Tasha's advice so valuable and learning directly from her was one of my other favorite parts. I would also say the creation of the portfolio, which I aim to build upon even after Tasha reviews it! This course motivated me not only to work on my copywriting portfolio, but my general portfolio as well! It was exactly the motivation I needed.
My advice to anyone thinking about taking the course is—Do it! The information is concise, valuable and engaging- and nothing ever comes without adequate examples to further assist. Copywriting contains so many elements that may initially seem intimidating, but this course helps lessen that intimidation by providing genuine community, examples and the workbook that really walks with you through everything. This course was fantastic! Everything was 10/10.
