Q What do you do?

I’m a branding specialist with over 15 years’ design and creative direction experience, with a specialty in working with creative small businesses.

Alstampa Studio, founded by Alex Labriola, is a creative design studio that specializes in visual branding identities and illustration. Inspired by the brands and clients themselves, Alex’s specialty is working with creative entrepreneurs.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

I've been immersed in art since I was 15, studying printmaking and graphic design in college before beginning my career hand-painting wallpaper with a team of printmakers in Amagansett, NY. That experience showed me I could build a life as a working artist. Over the years, I served as an in-house creative director while running a side project - Alstampa Studio - focused on letterpress design. In 2016, after relocating to Amsterdam, I turned Alstampa into my full-time practice, blending art direction, design, and illustration into one cohesive offering. I haven’t looked back!

Q How do you stand out in your field?

What sets Alstampa Studio apart is the way I blend creative direction with strategic, hands-on support. I’m not just here to design, I partner with clients through every stage of their launch or rebrand, helping them feel seen, supported, and set up for success.

I offer the best of both worlds: the personal attention and big picture mind you may not receive with a freelancer, and the care and experience you would get from a larger agency -without the high cost or feeling like just another client.

My background as an artist, creative director, and small business owner allows me to approach each project holistically, considering both the visual and operational sides of a brand. I'm deeply invested in my clients' growth and approach every collaboration with care, clarity, and intention.

Q What are you working on right now?

Lately, I’ve been fortunate to work on several exciting projects in the food and beverage space - a category I truly love. I’ve developed the branding for Frankie’s, a restaurant in Burlington, Vermont, and Wilder Wines, a wine bar. We also recently launched a rebrand and packaging for Super Secret Ice Cream, a small-batch, James Beard-nominated shop in New Hampshire, as well as the identity and packaging for Titin EVOO, an olive oil producer from Jaén, Spain. Collaborating with passionate makers and visionaries is something I deeply value, and I’m honored they trust me with their products, spaces, and brands.

Q What’s your style?

I describe my style as clean, sophisticated with a touch of playfulness and sometimes whimsy. I like to approach each client with a fresh perspective, taking what they envision and turning it into something unique and layered. Sometimes that is more stylized and modern, sometimes that is timeless and understated.

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

I still want to launch my wallpaper line and partner with a company that can produce and sell it for me. I love creating illustrated wallpapers for clients and would like that to become a constant at some point down the line.

Q What is frustrating you right now?

Content creation is hard! I love when I get a moment to create a reel or write my substack, but it takes a lot of work to do it right and I wish I had more time!

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

Social media and marketing!

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

Slow is okay and actually more long lasting. So often I would stress about where I wanted to be, when it's clear to me now I needed all that time and all those steps to get to where I am. Stay true to what feeds your soul and things will shift.

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

I'd love an audit of what I'm doing on social / substack / mktg to better plan for the future growth of my business.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

I am looking to work on branding identities for small spaces, restaurants, boutique hotels, shops. I am looking to continue working on packaging projects for the food and beverage industries. And I am always looking for any creative that needs help with their branding or illustration needs.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

My ideal client is ambitious yet grounded, collaborative, with a clear vision, but also open to being thoughtfully guided through the creative process. I look for long-term partnerships, where trust and shared goals allow for deeper, more impactful work over time.

One of my favorite partnerships has been with Super Secret Ice Cream, an award winning ice cream shop in New Hampshire.

Kristina, the owner, brought amazing ideas to me for the rebrand but let me lead the visual identity and illustration style. In the end we created so many different styles of packaging for her ice cream, sandwiches, popsicles and more and she also developed some of the best merch items I've seen a shop carry! Her community, who was already in love with her product, fell head over heels for the look and feel as well and now she's being featured all over.

Q What is your rate?

My branding packages can range from $6k - $15k depending on the client's needs. We also partner with copywriters, developers, SEO experts whenever necessary. I also provide custom Squarespace build-outs which can be included in the branding package scope. Please inquire with me for pricing as it varies depending on needs.

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

Email hello@alstampa.com or fill out the form on my website www.alstampa.com. It's always helpful to know timeline, budget, and deliverables (I.e. logo, colors, website, newsletter template).
