Allan Khorsheed
Q What do you do?
Everything design and creative I do all of it.
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
My first job out of college was marketing for a health services company. I didn’t love the marketing bit but I got a chance to design a couple of things. After I left that job and moved to New York, I went full-time to Youtube University and taught myself Photoshop and Illustrator. During that time, I would work for my friends doing posters or logos and I was able to develop a portfolio. After about a year, that portfolio got me my first job at an agency. Zero to hero just like that. Good job, self.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
My influences and sense of humor are really unique to me. Whenever I start a new brief, I prioritize pulling references from my own world (old farming and science catalog collection) before I hit Pinterest. I take my work very seriously but I also need it to be hilarious.
Q What are you working on right now?
Working on finding work! I’ve spent the last two months cranking out test projects for would-be employers. On the side, I like to draw little pictures and scan stuff on my computer. I’ve also been getting obsessed with hand-drawn animation. Less screen time means less scream time.
Q What’s your style?
Country skater
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
Food packaging and branding
Q What is frustrating you right now?
Trying to find applications for my work outside of capitalism.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
Deli runs
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
Eckmannpsych is going to be huge and you’re just going to have to accept it.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
Digital illustration
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
Branding and packaging design. Would also love more illustrative work, posters, album covers, etc.
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
A project where I have full creative range to bring my authentic self to the work but also with constructive direction from the client. A true collaboration.
Q: What is your rate?
I prefer project fees over rates but if you're going to twist my arm, $80 per hour.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Sending a dm on Instagram is a good way to start but I will always prefer to move the conversation to email. So feel free to hit my inbox anytime!
Q Who is a creative you admire?
Félicité Landrivon aka @brigadecynophile amazing poster artist. Her work has everything I aspire to be. #simping
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
Sometimes all it takes is a long walk around the neighborhood. It's amazing what you can find in a deli window decal.
