Amy Hirt Mullinary
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I love finding unique pieces and bringing them to life through photo and video. My skills include wardrobe styling, content creation and personal shopping. I work with clients and teams creating website and video content, fashion e-commerce campaigns, short films and commercials. My job is to make sure all talent is looking their best on camera, and going the extra mile to ensure that the wardrobe department is on top of their game. I also have a background in social media and content creation. When I'm not shooting or on a project, I am a personal shopper, helping creatives, professionals and moms or dads on-the-go keep their wardrobe looking fresh and giving their closets some TLC.
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
Coming from the startup world, I've spent over 5 years working as a marketing professional and in-house creative stylist for e-comm company, ModCloth. My projects included advertising campaigns, blog tutorials, and video content. While I still freelance style for this company, I have worked with other fashion and website companies helping to style their creative projects (video, blog, website). I've also worked with several brands helping to elevate their social and website content through art direction, content creation and community building.
How do you stand out in your field?
I have a strong work ethic and great attention to detail. Above all, I like to get my hands dirty and help in any area possible to complete a project from start to finish and make it look amazing.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
Redesigning my website & portfolio to feature new work, plus a few side hustles to pay the bills.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
While I live for color & fun prints, I also admire and am drawn to more minimalist styles. Any time I can add some denim to a look I am a happy camper.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
My goal is to work more exclusively in the fashion, e-commerce and commercial industries.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
Keeping my website updated is always at the bottom of my to do list.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
Wardrobe returns! Actually, I'd pay them more because that task is the worst. ;)
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
Don't stress, everything will work out (if you put the work in).
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
Their journey. The more people I meet in this industry, the more I understand that no path is a straight shot. My work background is very diverse but it gives me more perspective into other areas of a project.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
I would love to take on more opportunities in fashion and e-comm. Small indie companies & startups with a great aesthetic and message are my passions.
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
Ideal collaborations include passionate people. The best jobs I've had were with hard working crews that are respectful & get the job done while encouraging the people around them to be their best.
WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?
My 10 hour day rate for a shoot is $400. Hourly personal shopping, I charge $50. I'm also up for negotiating rates if the project is a great fit and experience.
HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?
I'm always up for a good cup of coffee and a chat.
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
Travel, travel, travel.
