Q What do you do?

A whole lot of things these days!! I am a real estate agent, investor and I own a travel company called Coast to Costa.

When I'm not doing that I like to hang out with my wife and 9-month-old baby girl, Eli.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

When I first moved back to LA 9 years ago and had NO money, I had the brilliant idea that if I bought a duplex and rented one side, we could pay very little to own a house. From that day in 2013, I have looked at listings, done calculations, and read books about real estate. It became a totally fascinating subject to me and when the pandemic hit and I had tons of time (with Coast to Costa stopping) and a baby on the way, I decided to turn my fascination into getting my real estate license. It was a brilliant move!

Q How do you stand out in your field?

I feel like I'm a non-douchey agent! I feel like real estate has this reputation where it's like slick dudes and like the women on Selling Sunset, sharkey in heals...I like to help friends and friends of theirs get their first or second home and make the stressful situation way more comfortable. It's an overwhelming thing to buy your first house and I use my "keep everyone calm when shit goes wrong in Cuba" skills to make the process way less stressful and fun, even!

Q What are you working on right now?

Right now I have 5 buyers that we're looking for the perfect home for. I am putting out super fun fliers and calling houses in the neighborhood to see if people want to sell their homes while the market is so high. We have investors that we are working with to help them purchase rental properties to collect rents on in some out-of-state markets. Coast to Costa is in the process of being systematized to operate and function much better.

Q What’s your style?

I am very friendly and approachable. I'm very much a people person. For clothes, I do old band shirts and chinos most days...sometimes a fun button-up if it's something fancy I'm going to.

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

I would love to help people sell their homes more. With the real estate market being so high right now, it's so fun to work with sellers and make some improvements to get the best value for the sale of their homes. I've worked with people now who have bought in Highland Park in the 80s and 90s who are literally walking away from the sale with more than a million dollars. It's life-changing for them and is so rad to be a part of!

Q What is frustrating you right now?

With Covid, everything started moving slowly with funding for investments. Plus it made it much harder to find good homes that are decently priced for my first-time buyer clients. It's still possible but takes some more thinking outside of the box.

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

I would love someone who would put the fliers together, keep up with social media, a great salesperson to do cold calling to generate leads and they could calculate investments that come through to see if they're worth it. Someone who could do all of that would be the PERFECT hire!

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

It's going to be SO much work to get where you want to be but you can do it. Don't stop! Also, it's FINE you didn't finish college. It doesn't matter where you're heading!

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

I think creating pitch decks for investors. Asking for money is an art and a science and I'm so used to bootstrapping that I'm uncomfortable getting investors' money.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

I am looking for people who are wanting to buy or sell a home. I love to help make the uncomfortable process way more fun and less stressful. If people are interested in investing in real estate, (I could talk forever about all of the benefits of that) I have some really great projects in other markets that are doing really well.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

My idea collaboration is someone who wants to sell their house, I give them suggestions or help them make small improvements to their house to get the best sale price. Especially if they bought at a time when prices were way lower, it's amazing to see people make enough to retire on/life-changing amounts of money. I love first-time buyers, as I was one not that long ago and I know what it's like and how shitty the whole experience can be so I like to change that and make it fun and exciting!

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

Hit me up whenever! I love chatting with people, especially about real estate or travel, my two passions. My cell phone is (415) 601-6631. Call me or text me. I'm best in person or on the phone. If email is easier for you: andrew@maisonrealestate.com.

Q Who is a creative you admire?

Not to kiss ass but Puno and Daniel are straight geniuses! I've been seeing them dream up then program cool ass shit for years now and I love how they get things done.

Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?

I play bass daily and go to the beach as often as possible...with a baby that's hard
