WHAT DO YOU DO?

I’m a front-end developer and web designer.

I design and code websites using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Squarespace!

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

I graduated from college with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and was set on pursuing a career in healthcare. After graduating, I worked in a pharmacy and then in a clinical research lab. I definitely spent a good chunk of my early 20’s trying to figure out my career. One day, I was curious about coding and started out learning HTML and CSS. I really enjoyed learning about code - it reminded me a lot of customizing Myspace and customizing my early blog websites.

I decided to start learning web development part-time and was fortunate to meet a lot of developers that gave me advice and helped me along the way! I finally took the leap and started applying for web development jobs. I landed my first front-end developer job at a digital marketing firm, where I learned (and am still learning!)  a lot about website development, design, and marketing.

How do you stand out in your field?

I enjoy the process of translating design to code and thinking about the user experience. I’m a creative problem solver - when a client approaches me with a problem or an idea for something new I do my best to find a solution. I aim to bring my unique perspective and ideas when designing and building a website.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

I’m working on leveling up my skills and building up my portfolio! I’m focused on finding clients and building relationships for web design work.

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

I gravitate towards clean, minimal, and modern websites with interesting features that make it unique. I recently re-designed my portfolio website and I think it’s a good representation of my style.

WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?

I wish I could focus more on photography! I love taking photos and capturing my unique perspective. I bought my first DSLR when I was a senior in high school and I couldn’t put it down. I also shoot film occasionally and would love to learn more about the film development process.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

I can get stuck on small details when working on a project and can spend way too much time on one problem instead of moving on and coming back to it later. I’m learning to take a step back and move forward.

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

I would hire someone to help me with the marketing aspect of social media.

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

I would tell myself not to be afraid to take risks and challenges! Instead of waiting for opportunities for myself, I would tell myself to go out and create them.

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

I would love to talk to more UX Designers and learn more about the process, especially when it comes to Web Design and Development.

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

I’m looking for freelance web design projects. I am looking for opportunities to help others grow their ideas, businesses, or personal brand.

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.

My ideal client would be someone who has a clear idea of what they want for a specific project. They would also have all their content, copy, images, and videos ready. They would trust my process and we would be able to share ideas with each other.

WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?

Rates vary by project! You can email me and I would be happy to chat about a specific project.

HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?

Email! You can email me at annalyn.c.s@gmail.com

HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?

Going outdoors, exploring new places, and finding unique experiences.
