Armin Nussbaumer
Q What do you do?
Yes, that's right, I'm a visual storyteller! I'm all about capturing those moments that make you feel something. I like to think of myself as a memory collector, preserving the magic of life's fleeting moments in a way that's both beautiful and meaningful.
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
The journey to where I am now has been quite the adventure! It all started in a tiny village where the cows outnumbered the people. Don't get me wrong, I love a good moo, but I knew there was more to life than rural living. So, I packed my bags, said goodbye to my bovine friends, and headed to the big city.
Once I arrived, I knew I wanted to pursue my passion for film and storytelling, so I enrolled in film school. Those were some of the best and most challenging years of my life. I learned so much and was able to hone my skills as a videographer and photographer.
Of course, as with any creative field, it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. I had to take on many projects that were underpaid, but I knew that every opportunity was a chance to grow and learn. And boy, did I learn a lot! I developed my eye for detail and found new and innovative ways to tell stories through my work.
However I didn't always consider myself a creative person. But, as I started to immerse myself in the world of film and photography, I discovered that creativity was in my blood. I found joy in the process of creating something new and exciting, and it's a feeling that has stuck with me ever since.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
When it comes to being a reliable and on-time creative professional, I'm the cream of the crop. You can set your watch to me, baby! :)
But it's not just about showing up on time and getting the job done. Oh no, I take things to the next level with my perfectionism. Some might call it OCD, but I like to think of it as a superpower. Whether it's composing the perfect shot or editing a video until it's just right, I leave no stone unturned when it comes to creating top-notch work.
And let's not forget about the most important factor of all: building great relationships with my clients. I don't just see them as people who pay me to do a job, oh no. They're my creative partners, my ride or dies, my homies! By building a strong rapport with my clients, I'm able to truly understand their needs and create work that exceeds their wildest dreams.
Q What are you working on right now?
To be honest, I feel like I'm a bit of a whirlwind lately - always moving, always shaking, always working on something new and exciting.
Right now, I'm knee-deep in editing an energy project for the folks over at ETH Zurich. It's been a bit of a marathon, but I'm feeling pretty darn proud of the final product.
Last week, I was lucky enough to be filming an event for World Minds. It was a total blast - tons of inspiring speakers, and some seriously cool behind-the-scenes access.
Then I've got two photoshoot projects coming up in the next few weeks - one is for an event, and the other is a portrait series.
And if all that weren't enough, I might just be filming a theater play in April.
Q What’s your style?
I really admire the work of Peter Coulson, and I'm drawn to his minimalist approach to fashion and commercial photography. I like the way he uses black and white photography to capture the beauty and complexity of women, and I would say his style has influenced my own work a little bit, as in this bikini photo session that I would like to repeat in the near future: arminnussbaumer.com/studio-bikini-sedcard
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
Animation.
Q What is frustrating you right now?
One of the biggest challenges I'm facing right now is finding the time to focus on the administrative side of things. With so many projects and deadlines to meet, it can be tough to carve out the necessary time to update my website and social media channels in order to attract new and better clients.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
I would definitely have them take on the task of updating my website and helping me attract new and better customers. This would free up my time to focus on the creative aspects of my business. It would also alleviate some of the stress and pressure of feeling like I need to do everything myself.
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
First off, believe in yourself, you capable and talented human being, you! And don't worry about the hair. You still look pretty darn good!
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
If I could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, I would want to learn more about the science behind creativity. As a creative professional, I am always looking for ways to push the boundaries of my work and come up with new and innovative ideas. I would love to talk to someone who has dedicated their life to studying the cognitive processes that drive creativity, and learn more about how to cultivate these processes in myself and others. From psychology to neuroscience to philosophy, there are so many different fields that touch on this topic, and I would relish the opportunity to pick the brain of someone who has a deep understanding of it.
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
If you happen to know anyone over at Sports Illustrated or Playboy, tell them to hit me up, because I'm ready to make some magic happen!
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
My ideal collaboration is one where trust is the foundation of our relationship. When my clients give me creative freedom, it allows me to use my skills to the fullest and produce work that truly stands out. It's also important to me that the project aligns with my values and interests, so that I can pour my heart and soul into it.
