Q What do you do?

I’m a motion and sound designer.

I dabble in 3D graphics but otherwise 2D is my bread and butter.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

Just saying I went to school for my field is incredibly uninspiring. In all honesty, my desire to be a designer-turned-art director pivoted to motion design because there's more demand for animation and GFX for video content. It's also easier to identify as a specialist in the field versus having to "climb the corporate ladder". It was a strategic decision to cater to my independence more than anything else.

Q How do you stand out in your field?

There are a lot of graphic designers who would rather focus on design instead of motion. Then there are motion designers and animators who may not have familiarity with design principles and trends. I think I strike a unique middle ground where I'm comfortable creating beyond short form animations, but I also love keeping up with design trends and inspiration.

Q What are you working on right now?

Creating a motion toolkit and identity for my current role. On the side, sync licensing.

Q What’s your style?

Playful, abstract, and oddly satisfying

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

Music Production!

Q What is frustrating you right now?

I struggle with marketing my work/self once a project is done. Getting immersed in doing the work is all too easy for me but putting it out there in the world is daunting especially when you see other creatives really breaking ground in the social media space.

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

Organize files, handle invoices, just little things that can eat up time that I may need to dedicate to pushing pixels and key frames.

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

Don't shut yourself out from the world because you feel like what you make isn't good enough and don't compare yourself. Embrace the unique perspective you bring.

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

How to market and promote yourself as an independent creative.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

Sync placement for music and GFX for music videos.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

I would produce for up and coming artists while continuing my journey creating graphics for all kinds of video content.

Q: What is your rate?

$500/day granted the project is very short term. Otherwise it would depend on the client's scope and notoriety.

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

I always welcome an email or zoom call.

Emonee LaRussa

Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?

Dancing, sketching, writing, running
