WHAT DO YOU DO?
I utilize my wide range of technical skills and storytelling techniques to splice together visually engaging stories.
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
I've always had a strong appreciation for design and musical performance and similar to design and music, video uses both technical skills and an emotional perspective, which made it a natural fit for me.
I had ambitious goals for video and filmmaking since my teenage years, studying film at the University of Texas at Austin and ran a small production company called Temper. Then, I made the move to New York and started working for several brands and agencies (Refinery29, Zola, theSkimm, Spotify) as an editor for advertising, short-form content, and documentary.
HOW DO YOU STAND OUT IN YOUR FIELD?
I am incredibly organized and technical, but can effectively tap into my emotions and empathize with the story, the subject, the viewer, and fellow collaborators.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I’m working in advertising, short-form content, documentary, and virtual events.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
On a personal level, I truly adore this film by Claudia Barral and I’m developing a series through early, stripped down experiments that were loosely inspired by it. Overall, I love to tell the stories of people with a candid edge using interesting editing and motion graphics techniques.
WE ALL HAVE MULTIPLE SKILLS OR WORK IN VARIOUS INDUSTRIES, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD FOCUS ON MORE?
I enjoy design and motion graphics and although I already do often work with graphics, I’d love to bring this closer to the forefront of my work and build out my design skills. Outside of the digital world, I design and build furniture.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
Finding projects to work on that reflect my personal taste and perspective.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
I would hire an assistant editor to prepare projects, finalize exports, and assist on a lot of the smaller things that add up.
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
When I started a small production company in college, I approached it too aggressively and I would tell myself then to have more patience with myself and my co-partner. There was a lot of potential and I wish I had dedicated a bit more thought to it before leaving it behind.
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
I would love to talk to more editors who have been in the industry longer, but also may do non-video work in addition.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
I’m looking for any and all advertising and commercial, short-form content, and documentary work. I’d also love to work on projects that explore new ways to tell a story through abstract imagery and experimental editing techniques.
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
I’d love to work with someone who is organized, gives direct feedback, and respects the partnership and collaboration.
