Q What do you do?

I wear the 100 hats that come with running a small business!

I am primarily a Squarespace web designer but also absolutely love creating brand identities for small businesses and working on search engine optimization. There's a lot of "left brain" and "right brain" work that goes on in my home office.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

I decided to take the freelance route after the pandemic since I was looking for a better work/life balance. Starting an online business during the pandemic was a pretty big gamble since no one knew what was going to happen with marketing, but I think it became pretty apparent that a lot of businesses needed a better online presence. After starting Agave Studio, I was lucky enough to have some amazing connections here in Colorado that immediately allowed me to build a client base and start building my business. Today I have about 15-20 clients I work with on a one-on-one basis and love every minute.

Q How do you stand out in your field?

I really stand out in my field by providing a really "big picture" approach to my designs. I want the brands and websites I design to have longevity and that really means asking my clients right off the bat where they see themselves and their business in 5 years. This is a big ask but I think if you're happy with a brand or website after 5 years I've done my job. Of course, there will need to be updates and tweaks but that's a part of the fun.

Q What are you working on right now?

I currently have some really cool branding and Squarespace web design projects I'm working on currently. A couple of therapists, personal trainers, railroads (it's an interesting niche), and other small businesses. I also have a few SEO clients currently where I'm working on increasing their search traffic to their Wordpress, Shopify and Squarespace sites.

Q What’s your style?

I would say my style is very modern with a mid-century or retro twist. I like to keep the websites I design very visual heavy while breaking away from the normal typefaces you normally see on websites. I want sites to be easy to use for users and give a lot of opportunities for potential customers or clients to get where they need to go. I feel like my own site reflects a lot of these things and my own style.

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

I really do want to work more in the brand realm. I love designing cool logos, using color theory and don't get me started on picking out typefaces... it's the best.

Q What is frustrating you right now?

Generating quality leads at this point. I feel like I have a good handle on my website, portfolio and socials but I'd like to be reaching a wider client base. That's why I'm applying to be here!

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

Billing... 😵‍💫 definitely somewhat of a business manager position. I feel like $20 an hour is way too low for that, but if someone could help with billing, new inquiry emails, etc. that would be absolutely fantastic.

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

I really wish I would have told myself to take the leap into freelance earlier. I think I would have been a lot happier and a lot better off if I started earlier instead of trudging through agency life. Don't get me wrong, agencies can be fantastic, but it just wasn't my vibe.

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

Talking to an expert on how to manage my social media and work with paid advertising platforms would be great.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

Squarespace websites, brand identity projects, and SEO strategy

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

The types of clients I'm looking for are mainly other creatives, photographers, professional service businesses, museums, non-profits, etc. I love working with others who are passionate about what they do because that passion shines through when working through the project. Those are definitely the clients I'll put a little extra in for and really go the extra mile.

Q What is your rate?

My Squarespace website projects start at $2000 but of course that depends on pages, functionalities, etc. I have been known to work with other solopreneurs and nonprofits on pricing and even donating some of my time to causes that are really near and dear to my heart. My logo and branding projects start at $500 and go up from there and my SEO projects are either a one-off project or subscription-based depending on page count.

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

Our Say Howdy page is the best way to get in touch

Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?

Meeting new people, enjoying nature, and trying new things!
