WHAT DO YOU DO?
Or often brands have lots of content but need someone to edit video for them.
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
I got started in editing with iMovie on project for high school and college, and then after I graduated I joined a startup where we had no budget for marketing. So I took up the task of making our motion graphic explainer videos, social videos, and anything our team needed. After the startup I began freelance video editing.
How do you stand out in your field?
My approach to video editing is driven by analytics. I am in tune with industry insights on best practices for top performing content.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I am a freelancer producing and editing social content for RVshare and Firestone Walker.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
My personal style is represented on my instagram. It is a dreamy and nostalgic approach on shooting and editing video. Otherwise, my client facing work is project based. I have been lead producer and editor on very technical projects like a health docuseries and I have pitched, produced, and edited new series for youtube brands.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
Social Video Content.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
Brands trying to create with no budgets.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
It would be great to have an assistant editor who could assemble timelines, and prepare the assets for me to come in and cut the story, make the effects, or whatever is needed for each project. They could then export all the necessary sizes, and make any additional minor revisions. This way I am able to pitch new creative, and execute on the creative rather than get lost in the weeds.
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
Yesterday. To move your car so you don't get a parking ticket.
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
I'd like to learn more about stocks, finance, and real estate. I'd like to make better investments, and create passive income.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
I am interested in either short or long form content. I have worked on projects that have lasted 6 months, and I have worked on project that take several hours. I do not have preference because each situation is nuanced.
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
I like variety. So this is a tough question to answer because there are many ideal situations. It's almost easier to describe the less than ideal situations, but that would not be answering this question.
My ideal client is one that believes in their product, and it's solution. In comparison to working with a social media manager who is just collecting rent.
My ideal job is one that involves pushing creative boundaries. In comparison to creating click bait ads.
My ideal collaboration is pushing the creative envelope to new heights.
Who is a creative that has helped you elevate your work?
Jeremiah Davis: we work closely together on many projects, and his work ethic and editing style is top notch.
HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?
My email inbox is always open! Send me a pitch or just a mood board at curt@directorcurt.com.
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
Film photography is my outlet.
