Dalton Belew
Q What do you do?
I specialize in all forms of content for beauty, fashion and lifestyle brands. Whether that be product campaigns, tutorials, or sponsored posts, I do it all!
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
I started off editing YouTube videos for smaller beauty influencers. After deciding to leave Kansas to pursue beauty filmmaking full-time, I started working as the Post-Production Supervisor for a beauty/lifestyle production company. Now I work with many different brands and influencers on all forms of beauty content.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
I stand out because I have spent years studying and practicing beauty filmmaking. I’m not just a filmmaker who gets hired to work for brands because they need a filmmaker, I get hired because I know the ins and outs of what makes for great beauty content.
Q What are you working on right now?
Right now I’m doing a lot of work for skincare and makeup brands!
Q What’s your style?
I love to create anticipation and “moments” in my work. I can do super clean and polished, or more raw and personal. It’s all about what fits the brand best! This is one of my favorite projects as of late.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
I wish I could focus on more animation and digital rendering. The possibilities are endless with digital work.
Q What is frustrating you right now?
Right now I’m frustrated by the lack of hours in the day. I’m big on work-life balance but also enjoy the creation process so trying to balance that with the usual day-to-day tasks is a struggle!
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
I would hire someone to respond to emails! I try to respond in the most eloquent way possible when sometimes people just need a simple answer!
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
I would have told myself when I first moved to Los Angeles to keep doing what you’re doing and everything will work out exactly how it is supposed to. You will learn so many vital lessons and it may seem hard but you will get to where you want to be!
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
I would love to talk to an expert about pricing. I think pricing is a very gate-kept topic in our industry and I think we could all help each other out by knowing what everyone else is charging!
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
I’m looking for beauty focused projects. I enjoy brands that have a cause they are behind and a unique message. I also love documentary projects and sharing the unique stories of people living in Los Angeles.
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
My ideal client is someone who knows what they don’t like! It really helps me narrow down the final product for them. I think being transparent and communicative also sets everyone up for success.
Q: What is your rate?
A typical beauty campaign for me starts at $3,500. As I mentioned before I offer many types of content so the scale slides for me depending on the complexity of the project.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Email is best for me. A brief description of the brand, project and budget is a great starting point!
Q Who is a creative you admire?
I love Logan Mock’s work. He’s a photographer that captures very candid and soft moments - almost the complete opposite of my style which is why I love his work. instagram @loganleemock
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
Working with brands out of my comfort zone!
