WHAT DO YOU DO?

I write web copy for small businesses, using their brand voice.

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

To get to where I am now, I studied journalism in Brazil (UNICEUB) and in the United States (University of Texas at Austin). In Brazil, I worked as a freelancer with GPS Brasilia to collaborate on a travel guide for Brasilia. I interviewed many restaurant owners, translated information from Portuguese to English and wrote most of the content. I also interned for a local union, where I interviewed many local politicians and uploaded information to the website. I also worked in the college newspaper as a reporter, editor, and editor-in-chief.

In Texas, I worked as a reporter for the school magazine. I interned at KUT 90.5, Austin's NPR Station. There, I wrote web copy and created promos for the radio. I then interned for The Texas Standard, a radio news program in Austin. There, I produced my own radio story, pitched stories and wrote web copy. After graduating, I took up freelance copywriting. I still haven't found my niche, so I currently write copy for a wedding photographer and write Portuguese copy on self-help. I'd love to start writing about health & wellness in English!

How do you stand out in your field?

I stand out in my field as multicultural because I have worked in Brazil, Canada, and the United States. Because of that, I tend to look for many different sources so all types of readers can identify with the articles.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

Freelancing as copywriter, trying to find new clients.

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

I want to find a niche and have the freedom to be quirky in my writing. Iā€™d like to emulate someone like Rachel Khona. Her style is witty, conversational and fun. She has short but effective sentences that draw the readers attention. Even her "about me" page is like that: " I'm always there for you. At least when it comes to copywriting." My goal is to be able to write informational articles while simultaneously playing with words.
