WHAT DO YOU DO?
I write content that helps illustrate brand stories, engage audiences, and cultivate online communities. I’ve worked on social campaigns, email blasts, ads, web and blog content. I also love editing. I currently run a travel and food blog, Jen on the Run.
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
I've really run the gamut, from working in public relations, marketing, and social media. I even dabbled in media planning for a hot minute! In college, I studied English and minored in screenwriting. Overall, all of my experiences have centered on storytelling. I am genuinely fascinated by how brands can connect and engage with an audience in a way that feels authentic.
How do you stand out in your field?
I have written in a variety of niches. Right now, I am focusing on food and travel, but really, I have experience writing on many topics, including the following: mental health, consumer packaged goods (CPG), event planning, psychology, wellness, music, independent film, and high-end interior design.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
Currently helping a company make a social content plan spanning six months, while also maintaining and managing my current clients' social media accounts.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
This might be a generic answer, but I really feel that my style is fluid. That's the nature of a writer; we take on multiple voices with ease. I can be funny and witty, flirty and cute, professional and serious, or thoughtful and poetic. It depends on the client. I want to hear your vision.
WE ALL HAVE MULTIPLE SKILLS OR WORK IN VARIOUS INDUSTRIES, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD FOCUS ON MORE?
I always think it's fun working my muscle in photography. I'd also like to take on more editing work.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
A never-ending, unfulfilled desire for more hours in the day, so I can accomplish ALL THE THINGS.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
Probably figure out how to get my inbox of 4,000+ emails down to 100. Yeah, I don't know how that happened. It's probably all the juicy giveaways I've entered and my horrible coupon-clipping habit :)
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
I've admittedly been a "yes" person for so long. I've wanted to be a fit for everyone. It has taken a long time to learn that I have to be who I am, even if that doesn't work for some people, because it works for others. And that's totally okay.
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
I love hearing from designers and photographers. Writers are so closely married with them in our work. I'd be so curious to hear an inside look from them. What would a painting of a designer's thoughts look like?
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
- Long-form or short-form copywriting
- Social media management
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
I'd love to work with regional and national brands, whether I'm involved in a quick project or a more extensive one! Also, I love small businesses.
WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?
I generally ask details on the scope of work before proposing a rate, so that I can best understand a project and the work involved. I work on retainer, hourly, per project, or per word.
WHO IS A CREATIVE THAT HAS HELPED YOU ELEVATE YOUR WORK?
HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
I love traveling. Changing my surroundings and exploring a new place keeps me refreshed, inspired and motivated
