WHAT DO YOU DO?

As a small business chief marketing officer I take all of the marketing tasks off of your plate.

This gives you time to focus on developing your products. I have helped many small business owners to narrow their focus, streamline their brand, and define their niche. Once I know what the big picture goals are I step in and create a marketing plan that scales. Once you have signed off on the plan you can be as involved as you like. Some of my clients like to review and approve every post, email, and ad while others prefer to let me run with it.

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

It all started with MySpace! During my teenage years I used MySpace to escape reality. I dove into learning about design, coding, and digital marketing. When MySpace popularity faded I moved on to blogs, websites, and eCommerce stores. During my undergraduate degree I took on many clients to help pay my way through college. I have worked with so many small business owners across many verticals from the furniture market to holistic health and beauty bloggers.

How do you stand out in your field?

I see the big picture. I look at where you are and where you want to be. I then develop a plan to get from A to B and dive in doing the work. A lot of my clients have been surprised at just how many tasks I can take off of their plates. From branding and web design to nurturing email subscribers to create trust.

I also hold the business owner accountable to their goals. In order for me to get my job done I need them to stay on track. I am great with project management and establishing processes for workflows. This has been a great advantage because when the workflows are do-able the work gets done. I am then able to market the work! :)

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

I am working with amazing clients who are passionate about their business and who prosper with my guidance. I have a very diverse range of clients whom I work with every week from well-known Chefs and Influencers to Event Planners, Psychics, eCommerce Shop Owners, and YouTube personalities.

I am also in the process of launching professional development products and swag for the entrepreneur.

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

The best way to see my work in action is to visit my website www.kaylawinter.me and to check out Portfolio Project on Youtube.

If you would like to see a portfolio of my work feel free to reach out to kayla@kaylawinter.me I am happy to provide several references!

WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?

Coaching and delegating. Again, I excel when looking at the big picture and backwards mapping from the goal. I also know when to hand off work to some of the freelancers I work with. If I let my plate stack up with too many tasks I'm not able to serve anyone with my full attention.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

Marketing my business. :) I am so intensely focused on helping the business owners I work with that the marketing efforts for my digital marketing business fall to the bottom of my to-do list.

At the end of the day when I have wrapped up all the tasks for my clients I have two choices... market myself or play with my fifteen month old son. I try to tell myself that the entire point of working for myself is having work-life balance and I don't want to miss out on his life or for him to remember me as being glued to the computer. So marketing for my own business has to happen after he goes to bed or before he wakes up. #priorities

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

One of my short term goals is to hire a digital marketing coordinator. This person would be a key player in helping me manage workflows for different clients. I would want to be able to pay more than 20 an hour though. The reason for that is so that person could work 20 to 30 hours a week for me and not have to focus on a second job unless they wanted to work on their own side hustle. As someone who has managed many employees I know that when you give a person more free time (less hours with better pay) they are happier to work as hard for your business as you do.

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

Ooh, this is a good one. I would go back to my early twenties and tell myself to keep working on my marketing business instead of seeking corporate employment and trying to climb the "ladder". Working with my clients one on one, on different projects across many different verticals, is so much more fulfilling than doing the same thing day in and day out from a dimly lit office.

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

Developing my long term business goals. I really want to begin offering courses to share more of what I know with others. Having an expert direct me on this would be very helpful. I feel like I could serve more people if I were to spend time developing courses and guidebooks. My one on one availability is limited, courses are not.

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

I am looking for long term clients. This does not mean that I am closed off to one-time projects but I have the best results when I get to dig in week after week on long term objectives. I am looking to manage marketing efforts for a small business.

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.

My ideal client is one who has a very strong vision and a large "why" behind what they do. I would work with them one on one to develop a marketing plan and then get to work on making it happen. I would develop systems and processes with them to make sure that all the time we invest in their business (the CEO and myself acting as partners) is used as efficiently as possible. I would want to work with someone who is as data driven as I am. If we try something and the data says it's not working I would want to pivot quickly and hone in on what is working... then do more of that.
