Laura Bishop & Lizzie Wallace
Q What do you do?
Our experience working on multi-disciplinary teams had led to our success developing brand identity, packaging, illustration, websites and environmental graphics. We design with a purpose and create work that uplifts and excites.
Our small but mighty team of two comes from a background in commercial interiors, which has lead us to excel on projects that incorporate graphics in the physical space to enhance the human experience. Our strength is bringing ideas to life through strategic and innovative design while having fun in the process!
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
Hard work, consistency and continual improvement. We have always had a genuine desire for the success of our clients and we attribute that too much of our own success.
As we grow, we aim to narrow our focus on clients that align with our price range & industry preference (now have 8+ clients in the food & beverage/hospitality space). We try to keep our portfolio updated with these types of projects to help attract the work that we want.
Our growth is also made possible by collaborating with other creatives (strategists, copywriters, web dev etc.) so that we can fulfill the needs of larger clients.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
Something we've heard from multiple clients is that we are "thoughtfully systematic" and refreshingly creative. Our priority is to make the design process easy and streamlined so that we can focus on creating something that our clients find pride in. When working with Lumly, you will have a professional exchange of services without any surprises… and of course, have fun in the process!
Q What are you working on right now?
Ongoing work for a hotel/social club located in Los Angeles, CA
- Branding, web design, collateral and signage for a real estate company in Los Angeles, CA
- Web design for a travel company based in Richmond, VA
- Packaging design for a nutrition bite company based in Los Angeles, CA"
Q What’s your style?
Fun, playful, surprising, impactful

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
We love to illustrate whenever we can. Whether it’s developing characters for a project or creating patterns or just for fun. This year we have been trying to focus on bringing some of our pattern work to life through various products… stay tuned for more in Fall 2023!
We also both worked in commercial interiors prior to Lumly, so we are always a sucker for projects where we can collaborate with an architecture/interiors team to integrate environmental graphics into the design.
Q What is frustrating you right now?
Our least favorite task is staying up to date with social media. It’s a full time job to continually find the best ways to share our work so we often push it to the bottom of our list. We are so thankful for our intern, Ari, who is helping keeping us on track this summer.
We also can’t forget to mention the constant battle of ongoing tasks — updating our website, sending out newsletters, marketing ourselves — that seem impossible to get ahead of!
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
Social media + Marketing
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
Be gentle with yourself, take your time and focus on creating great work. It's easy to get caught up in the numbers at the beginning of starting your own studio or in the freelance world, but the best clients come from referrals - So if you're focused on making great work, good things will follow.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
1. Marketing ourselves to the right audiences
2. Finding clients at the right point in their journey
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
First and foremost, we want to work with good people! We excel in brand identity, packaging design, illustration and environmental graphics. And all of the brand touch points that follow!
We typically seek out any CPG, Food & Bev and Hospitality clients but are open to anyone that is willing to push the boundaries and have fun!
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
A restaurant or boutique hotel that is JUST getting started. Ideally, they haven't built out their interiors yet so that we can collaborate with the architecture/interiors team to be a part of the greater vision from concepting to the smallest of details (naming, signage, way-finding, menus, merch… the list goes on!). Our work with Faye was a dream client/project for us — hopefully one of many!
Q What is your rate?
We price based on a flat fee structure because we find it eliminates a lot of back and forth and establishes the value upfront so everyone is on the same page.
Our starting price for full brand identity is $7,000. We are also open to offering a condensed rate for solopreneurs.
Our starting price for web design (not including development) is $5,000 depending on the complexity of design.

Q Who is a creative you admire?
If you are in need of brand strategy work, Rachel Bradenberger is your girl! We loved collaborating with her on BluByrd. She has a thoughtful approach to everything and is a joy to work with. We also admire the work of the Hoodzpah team. We are inspired by the way that they push boundaries and always deliver fresh and exciting new work.
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
Go on a walk :)
