Q What do you do?
I am passionate about creating compelling content that resonates with consumers by breaking the boundaries of narrative storytelling.
Mjackson Studio is a full-service remote studio specializing in social media marketing. Established in 2019 and led by Marissa Jackson, we offer an imaginative and collaborative approach to navigating the social media landscape. We start by getting to know your brand identity and aspirations. After thorough research and agreeing on a strategic direction, we get to work.
Our services include social media management, social strategy, and virtually everything under the social media umbrella. We offer our services to individual brands, leading agencies, and studios. Our approach emphasizes marketing that fosters product education and community collaboration, leading to significant success for our clients.
I began running and managing social media accounts in 2019 with 7 clients across the globe in the fashion, food, health and wellness space. I worked with brands to build their consumer base by working with influencers and engaging with existing and new audiences by creating original and compelling content. I photograph all original content on social feeds and build out creative decks to hone each brands identity.
I’ve worked with several companies and brands including POPSUGAR, Travel + Leisure, Food & Wine, Lexus, WhoWhatWear, Byrdie, MyDomaine, Lancome, Smirnoff, Orbie, Heineken, Target, Nordstrom, The Foundry @ Time Inc and M&C Saatchi Abel.
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
I began my journey in NYC getting my B.F.A in Photography from The School of Visual Arts. This is where I got a taste of what my future would be.
I started off in the agency world in editorial and branded content working at agencies and digital publications like Time Inc, Popsugar, Who What Wear and M&C Saatchi. In 2018, I began consulting for a few brands on the side (as we all know, the hustle is real in NYC) which lead to leaving the corporate world to start my own studio - Mjackson Studio
Q How do you stand out in your field?
Having worked both agency-side and in-house with different brands, I’ve come to really understand the FAST-moving world of social media and how important it is to have everything working together holistically. As a business owner and consultant juggling different roles, I’ve learned to handle every part of a social media campaign—from coming up with creative ideas to tracking the numbers. This hands-on experience means I can create strategies that not only saves time but also delivers real results and boost engagement for my clients.
Q What are you working on right now?
I'm currently working on growing my business. I've just finished the first phase of my website and getting started on phase two. This means, building out more case studies!
Q What’s your style?
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
Photography! I got my B.F.A in photography in NYC and used to get my creative juices flowing by taking editorial content before getting into the agency world. I'd like to spend more time on my photography and creating personal work!
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
Pull a trend report on viral reels, sounds and social content that is specific to my current clients. I currently use what is on the web for weekly trends but no one knows your client better than a human.
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
To not be so hard on myself…with experience and hard work comes success. Things don’t happen overnight. There are lots of highs and lows when starting a new business so don’t forget to always celebrate all the highs!
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
Instagram and TikTok algorithms. They are changing almost daily!
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
Social media management, influencer marketing, content creation, paid ads, and project management - I love working with new and existing brands to build out their social media presence and brand awareness.
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
One of my very first clients – a 20-year-old fashion brand that had zero social presence – approached me to develop their social media strategy and online presence/voice. 3 years later, I am still working with this brand, managing social media and influencer partnerships, creative director, and producer of all social content. Helping to make their vision a reality and watching their followers and sales expand so significantly has been incredibly rewarding and motivating – this client has become like family to me. I love to work with clients who have an open mind, believe in their brand, trust my vision, and want to collaborate.
Q: What is your rate?
Social media retainers range from $1,500-$6,000 per month depending on the scope of work. Get in touch for my hourly fees!
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
The OG way - a simple email with their ask, scope of project, timeline, and budget. You can reach out to me via my website!
Q Who is a creative you admire?
Michael Oliver Love @michaeloliverlove — His photographic work using body shapes and his use of colors and minimal image composition is SPOT ON for me. I reference his page often for color and design inspiration.
Hailun Ma - Love how product placement is used in the most organic way to Hailun Ma’s aesthetic.
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
Creativity and inspiration is all around. In mundanity and newness it can be found. Exploring and capturing images of unique locations. Engaging with and appreciating other people’s creations. The world wide web and real life objects. All serve as inspiration for my creative projects.
