WHAT DO YOU DO?

I develop visual systems for brands and interfaces.

Influenced by the principles of modern design, my approach is simple and direct, displaying clean, quiet and functional design.

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

With over 10 years of experience, I have developed a strong passion for minimalist design with deep focus on typography, geometry, shapes, patterns and grid systems.

As a former art director at Saatchi & Saatchi, I’ve had the chance to work on big brands (Volkswagen, T-Mobile, Microsoft, Cisco, Nestle etc.) and to learn how to combine business with visual thinking.

Currently I work as a designer and co-founder at Kiosk Studio.

FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR FIELD, WHAT DO THEY USUALLY LACK?

I would say there’s a huge amount of brilliant designers out there. The others probably lack confidence or ambition.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

Alongside my Kiosk Studio partner, we are currently developing a brand system for a furniture brand called Smart Living. Also, we are in a research and moodboard phase for a Swiss tech startup called Zwizz.

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

My process revolves around conversation, understanding, exploring and decluttering. My goal is to create things that balance beauty, simplicity, practicality and fun.

WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?

When I am away from work, you can find me either playing the piano, chess, visiting museums, running, shopping in COS, listening to Nils Frahm’s music, watching The Office, Chef’s Table, Cosmos etc.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

Dragging projects endlessly. Spending time on paperworks, rather than design.

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

Probably, I wouldn’t mind someone to help me with the technical side of projects, such as exporting assets and deliverables, preparing print files, maybe some accounting, and a bit of task management.

The Piano ain’t gonna play itself. :)

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

Don’t compromise.
Stick to your style.
It’s ok to say No.

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

I believe that in order to design, one must first understand and master the medium before it can be explored. Therefore, I would like to learn more tips & tricks in the area of digital design, such as HTML, CSS, Wordpress etc.

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

Ideally, a small startup brands. I would like to support, advise and help them develop their brand identity, voice and visual direction.

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.

My ideal job would be working with someone who shares my graphic vocabulary. A brand that is simple, focused on content, and usability. I really enjoy working on projects that intersect the areas of architecture, design and art.

WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?

Typically I price out projects based on an hourly, day or monthly rate. Hourly rates vary from $40-$60 / hour. Day rates are around $300. I also take on freelance work on pre-agreed monthly retainer.

HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?

Any form of contact is fine; Email, Phone, Social Media. I always provide a detailed questionnaire which helps me understand the brand.

HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?

I believe Creativity is a by-product of hard work.
