Olivia Konys
Q What do you do?
When a brand wants to get noticed, I concept campaigns and design artwork and make casting choices to bring a new brand story to life. I'm great with a camera for photography shoots and retouching.
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
Beginning as a luxury retoucher at a massive print production plant in the middle of nowhere New Jersey, I loved the idea of getting paid to photoshop but I did not want to work in a windowless cubicle. I worked hard to diversify my print background into digital UI/UX work to stay hip, and I found my home in advertising as an opportunity to collaborate with lots of skilled creatives by means of my contributions as a visual artist.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
My dazzling personality, 17 years spent mastering photoshop, my silly ideas, my unpredictable fashion sense
Q What are you working on right now?
Freelance advertising and graphic design
Q What’s your style?
Maximalist where I can, minimalist where necessary.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
Art direct / Street photography / Logo Design / Store and Experiential Design / Wardrobe Styling / Work in: luxury goods, fashion and/or beauty industries
Q What is frustrating you right now?
There are more movies produced than you could ever watch in a lifetime.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
Washing my paint and makeup brushes, folding my laundry and calling my mom to check in with her every day.
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
"Remember when you wanted what you have now." Even when you're working hardest, it's not all bad.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
Freelance networks and experience within an in-house design department
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
Art director work for ad campaigns or product launches
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
OOH campaign that makes you stop and open your phone. A campaign with the power to bring an old A-List celebrity back into the spotlight (Kate Moss? Jason Derulo?)
Q What is your rate?
I live in NYC and pay my own rent and health insurance and the like, so my rates reflect that. $750-1k/day, $45-60/hr, depending on: 1. the project scope of work and 2. work in a designer or art director role. Rates are flexible for long-term contract work (1 month+).
I'm available for presentation/pitch deck emergency design overhaul services or template designs for a flat rate of $400/day (or overnight) (additional $50 charged for every 10 slides in presentations with 100+ pages).
If you're stuck on a project or thinking of inviting me to help start a new one, I'm available for consultations that may lead to further brand work, including: logo design consultation ($50); print design consultation ($60); full branding consultation including digital presence review and brand audit ($200). Consultation prices can be applied as a credit toward final paid services.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Contact me on my website's about page or email me at www.oliviakonys.com. I'd love to know your favorite conversation starter at parties, and the expected duration or scope of the project you're working on.
Q Who is a creative you admire?
Bram Adams, Brittany Ellison, Evelynne Scholnick, Steena Adamson, Katia Kuethe, Sophy Hollington, Signe Pierce, Dewey Saunders, George Wysol, and Printed Matter.
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
Touching grass
