WHAT DO YOU DO?
I help businesses roadmap and then execute digital strategies based on data and resources that grow their impact and revenue. As a strategist, I can zoom out on long term planning and tactics that facilitate measurable growth and authentically work with businesses to outline actionable items that will accomplish their goals. And as a digital marketer, I make it easy to plan buys and execute multichannel activations where we can track success or pivot if needed.
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
I've always been the person asking how can we take something great and make it better? It started with 5 years at Vail Resorts in the travel/outdoor space where I was working on national marketing plans under a personal mentor and leader who always pushed me to be innovative. We spearheaded a variety of initiatives to increase incremental revenue as well as drive summer traffic which at the time was not as robust as it has become in the resort industry. It was at that point, as I worked with the burgeoning digital department on a few advertising projects, that I fell in love with digital marketing. To me, as someone who graduated with a degree in Economics, I always am fascinated with what data can tell us about human behavior. Digital marketing allows us to do just that, and has been a keystone of my career ever since.
From Vail, I re-located to Jackson, WY and began contracting after realizing many small businesses had limited resources when it came to digital and social media marketing and thus were often taken advantage of. I wanted to create relationships with business owners so they not only understood the benefits of marketing through digital channels, but also could see measurable results and garner takeaways from each campaign we ran. I owned and grew my own business for over 5 years primarily focusing on building campaigns with outdoor and non-profit clients before I began to pivot into the music industry.
Fast forward to 2019, I was increasingly growing my music clients and wanted to immerse fully in the promoter side of tour marketing to learn additional skills and tactics in this space. I was offered a job in the fall to manage national tour marketing for one of the largest festival and concert promoters in the United States and re-located to Los Angeles to work my dream job. Although shortened by COVID, I spent 9 months collaborating and running the marketing efforts both digital and non-digital for multiple touring artists across the country which further developed my skills and love of pairing multiple marketing channels together in strategic ways to make significant impacts. I'm always striving to use data and content strategy to connect fans in meaningful ways to artists and create long lasting relationships that bring positive outcomes to both the artist and the fan themselves.
How do you stand out in your field?
I'm someone who sees businesses as relationships that build and evolve over time. I want to understand the core drive of what clients are hoping to accomplish and any pain points that have created roadblocks to get there. It's important that each and every business or person I work with grows over our relationship in a positive way and makes their business more profitable and sustainable in the process. I also believe in setting up detailed analytics and reporting which businesses can understand to be part of the growth process themselves.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
One of my passion projects - which is analyzing and tracking developmental growth of an up and coming musical artist as we build and test single release tactics. It's centered around tracking and analyzing a variety of data points which to be honest is something I love to geek out over.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
My digital mantra is to build long term strategies that perform and are sustainable while constantly being open to test new things when the situation allows. I like a data approach first, supported by creative assets that perform and build relationships from the ground up.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
Currently working on growing my skills in website building to compliment and optimize the ad experiences I create for clients. I think it's important for all pieces to work together as a whole, and an important part of that is the web experience once you capture a customer.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
When small businesses are taken advantage of and coerced into digital marketing that does not truly address their goals (or accomplish them). There should always be a conversation as to what tactics you are utilizing and why, and an understanding on both sides how you are measuring success.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
Compile raw data reports for analysis. This is such an important piece of digital marketing but also time consuming.
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
When I was younger I was always afraid of my potential, and that manifested in some intense imposter syndrome which held me back career wise. Over the years I've learned to trust my skills and let the results speak for themselves. And if it's not my area of expertise, I understand the value in partnering with others who excel in that area to offer a better, more well rounded product.
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
I'm always interested in learning more about UX/UI design and building beautiful, functional online web properties. First impressions are everything, and a design and function forward website is often overlooked.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Digital focused brand strategy, especially for businesses looking to give back or connect with consumers in meaningful ways. In addition, consulting on artist development for musicians or other creatives and helping them build out actionable directives for growth on a budget.
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
For me it's a collaborative effort with a client or business that brings something valuable into the world, and that we grow together as a team. I appreciate creating relationships with clients who are passionate about what they are bringing to market and are willing to be part of the process while we grow it together.
WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?
It always depends on the project or circumstance. My retainers start at around $2000 a month or hourly rate ranges from $75/hr for strategy and $50 for digital execution. If it's a true passion project and the budget is slim, I'm always happy to negotiate something that feels fair to both parties.
HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?
Sending a budget and scope of work are a great start. As is an explanation of what pain points they are experiencing and what future goals they are focusing on.
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
The simplest answer is by staying on top of new trends and spending time outside when my brain gets stuck. But what really gets my wheels turning is connecting with my network of friends over virtual coffee or a simple phone call and brainstorming ideas together. I am so fortunate to have worked with and have a foundation of exceptional people in my life who are generous enough to let me bounce ideas off them which either can help lead me to a more successful outcome with a problem I’m facing, or help others. I also find driving along the California coast listening to music for hours can clear out cobwebs for weeks.
