WHAT DO YOU DO?
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
After graduating with an associates in Journalism, I decided to explore the more creative side of myself and nabbed an internship as a social media manager for a digital agency in New York City. While there, I quickly climbed the ranks to managing all East Coast Accounts, with clients including Aimee Kestenberg Handbags, Marie Lou and D Salon, CuttySark, Craft Travel Group, and Suavva. I now have my Bachelors in Communications and PR following an internship at media powerhouse Coveteur and non-profit grassroots organization Chesapeake Climate Action Network.
How do you stand out in your field?
My head is constantly swimming with new ideas and as a young self-starter, I have learned how to create content from the ground up and how to increase engagement across profiles by using unique, yet trendy content that’s tailored for your brand. I have a fresh outlook on social media and as an artist in my spare time, I view my career as a social media manager from that lens.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I am currently an in-house Social and Content manager for a food brand in Brooklyn, NYC and creating content and social strategy and management for freelance clients on the side. I love having a variety of topics to create content and social strategy for at once- it ignites my creativity even more and makes every day exciting and fun!
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
I have a plethora of ideas for brands from beauty to style and food, and my portfolio represents that through the diverse internships and professional positions I have held over the last four years. I excel in the clean and natural beauty and food space and in the sustainability sphere for fashion brands.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
My life is a whirlwind of creative endeavours, from the social media projects I’m working on for work, to the embroidery projects I work on afterhours, or my blog that I write for part-time, but I think I leave just enough time for each that it never gets boring!
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
As someone who has worked in the industry for four years through a full-time position and multiple internship experiences while in school, it's frustrating to see entry level positions who require five years of experience to be the low man on the social media team. I am very lucky to have been able to take time off school to work in the industry for two years, but sometimes it's still not enough! Freelancing has been a great way to be my own boss- I know that I have the relevant knowledge and experience to create a consistent, dynamic and successful social media profile, there's no unreachable standards here.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
One of my favorite parts of working in the social media industry is the diversity of jobs and tasks that we do every day. From creating graphics, to shooting fresh content, to scheduling copy and posts, and analyzing data, I can honestly say I love it all! But, I think that if I could hire someone to make my day easier, I would definitely have them do my laundry! ;)
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
I wish I could have told 10 year old me to stop stressing about “what you’ll be when you’re older” because it doesn’t even exist yet!
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
I'm an analytics nerd, and while I am Google Analytics certified, I would love to talk to an expert from Apple or Facebook to learn about the super in-depth analytics behind masked marketing and social media ads.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
I’m looking for projects that need a revamp of their brand’s social media experience. Do you have the bare bones of a brand plan but no idea how to transfer that to social media? I’m your gal! Do you need to bring your social media game up to 2021? I’m your girl!
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
I love working for people doing great things in a traditional space- if you’re a small sustainable fashion brand, a new clean beauty brand, a food brand that uses recyclable packaging and helps folks eat healthier? I want to work with you and educate the public on why you rock!
Who is a creative that has helped you elevate your work?
Being someone who's been in school and working solo for the past four years, I haven't had much collaborative experience other than Influencer marketing, but I'd love to work with some in the future!
