Q What do you do?
This year, I've been focused on growing Black Girl Magik, a wellness brand empowering Black women to awaken the healer within. Currently, I am crowdfunding (bit.ly/fundbgm) to launch our virtual membership platform for 2021.
I also am training with West African Shaman Malidoma Some and studying deeply into my ancestral traditions such as Hoodoo.
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
I answered the call from my ancestors. In 2015 I decided to birth an idea of creating a healing and empowering space for Black women, I had since adolescence. My first event was an internet sensation and propelled a movement of Black Girl Magik events across the United States for Black women.
This all took place while I was in undergrad so after graduation I moved to New York City. Soon after, winning the Girlboss Grant and touring across the US to DC, Atlanta, New Orleans, Los Angeles and NYC. This "Homecoming Tour" highlighted the need for a virtual space for Black women to gather, heal and grow together.
So in 2020 during the pandemic, I did something crazy! I started a crowdfunding campaign (bit.ly/fundbgm) which I'm currently working on fully funding by the end of 2021.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
I stand out in my field by walking in my authenticity with purpose.
Q What are you working on right now?
Right now I am training with Malidoma Some, crowdfunding at Black Girl Magik to raise 80K and offering my spiritual services online.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
Filmmaking and Creative Direction
Q What is frustrating you right now?
The die out of support from non-bipoc allies in BIPOC communities and founders. I've observed the rise and fall of support from 2020 to 2021 and how the rise was influenced by the culture emphasis on racial injustice. However when the injustice is not highlighted, the lack of support for BIPOC communities is evidently clear.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
Post on social media for BGM
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
You are worthy of doing this work no matter what comes your way.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
I would talk to an expert about finance, crowdfunding and social strategy.
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
I would love speaking engagements, campaigns, host meditation classes and gaining more private clientele ready to embark on their spiritual journey.
Q: What is your rate?
For clients my services start at $100/hour.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Email is best! hello@blackgirlmagik.com for general inquiries.
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
