Q What do you do?
I'm building Sorella Creative - a creative social media agency - alongside one of my best friends. We named it Sorella as it's Italian for sister, and we want to be big sister figures, giving you the help, advice and tools you need to BOSS social for your business.
We offer services surrounding all things organic social media, influencer marketing, content creation, and graphic design.
FUN FACT: I covered the launch of Kourtney Kardashian X PrettyLittleThing on PLT's social media. The very definition of a 'pinch me moment'.
☞ This is a note from Future Soph, who just finished filling in the form - buckle in, things are about to get chatty around here.
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
At school, I did okay across the board (apart from science - MAN, am I bad at that) but psychology really piqued my interest.
I went to uni to become a counsellor*, accidentally tripped and fell into Topshop (story of my life) and started managing a couple of the concession brands. I decided to dabble in the world of social media to help promote the brands. At the time, Instagram was essentially a newborn (feeling old RN) and I guess I just caught the social bug!
Fast forward 10 years and a successful career under my belt working across social and creative for some *huge* brands. We're talking PrettyLittleThing.com, Public Desire, ISAWITFIRST.com, as well as some smaller brands in the lifestyle space. Loved it (at times), learnt a LOT, but the whole fast fashion scene doesn't really align with my personal values and beliefs.
The older, wiser, and more experienced I got, the more I got the itch to slide my notice across the table to my boss and ✧DO THE DAMN THING!✧ So here I am, running my own business. Scary, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
*Ironically, I still actually use my degree skills a lot. Empathy goes a long way. And understanding how and why humans do what they do is one of the most important superpowers of marketers.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
I like to think I cut through the BS. For example, there are a *ton* of "social media gurus" out there on Instagram all reposting the same content like one big echo chamber, but Sorella Creative's approach is different. We're fun, friendly, and approachable. We break it down for you, and we skip the fluff ✌︎
Oh - and you can consider me your one-stop shop for all things creative and social, as I can custom design any graphics you need, tweak and develop your branding, build and implement an influencer marketing campaign... AND shoot custom video and photo content for your socials.
Q What are you working on right now?
Right now, other than eating an embarrassing amount of hummus (like, I'm essentially singlehandedly keeping the chickpea industry afloat at this point), I'm servicing a small handful of clients, but mostly taking time to perfect Sorella Creative's offerings.
I've just designed our website from scratch and had an incredible team of web devs build it for me, I've rebranded, and I've been working hard on building out a ton of fab (if I do say so myself!) digital resources. This phase is almost over and I'm looking to build my client base back up and sink my teeth into some exciting new projects.
Oh, and coming up? I can't say tooooo much but I'm taking over the reigns of running a 600k+ engaged following meme account for one of the most popular UK TV shows of the Summer. Being paid? To run a meme account!? I'm out here living my dream ☀︎
Q What’s your style?
For personal style, I'd say Sorella's own branding. Our website/social is basically the inside of my head. Except there are less dogs. Oh, and my personal pinterest is here.
But I admire a ton of different aesthetics and *love* the challenge of working across completely different brands at any given time.
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
Graphic design! I tend to do 99% of my graphics as part of a wider social media strategy - but would love a standalone graphics-based client.
Q What is frustrating you right now?
I say this with love and respect - clients who do not understand the scope of work that goes into a project and want rockstar results with minimum investment ☹︎
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
As a self-confessed perfectionist, a lot of my time is spent mocking up various options and spending *way* too much time deciding on things. Having a fellow creative as a sounding board would help so much.
Side note: I'd hopefully be paying more than $20/hour.
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
6 months ago, I'd have said to myself: ❝ Stop watching YouTube tutorials on how to build an entire website from scratch. Just invest into a web developer and get back to working on things you're actually good at ❞
Thankfully I did end up doing that and I've been lucky to work with incredible web devs who brought my vision to life, but I wish I'd done it sooner!
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
Building a personal brand. I've got the skillset to take brands socials from zero to hero, but I'm *not* good at bigging myself up. Inspirational LinkedIn posts just aren't my vibe.
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
Anything from curious business owners looking to download free resources from our site and maybe throws us a cheeky IG follow as a thank you, right up to businesses seriously interested in investing in our services. It all counts. Building our Sorella Creative community is really important to me right now ♡
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
If you're in the fashion, beauty, or lifestyle space. If you have good vibes. If you're creative and have a clear vision for your brand/business. Oh, and if you're based anywhere outside of the UK. I need an excuse to escape rainy Manchester.
^ If I'm describing you, we need to become biz BFFs, like, NOW!
Q: What is your rate?
I tend to price project to project, starting at ~£1000/month. You can book in consultations with me here.
I'm totally open to working at cheaper rates when it comes to solopreneurs, not-for-profits, or BIPOC businesses.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
☞ Slide into my DMs - @sorella_creative
☞ Slide into my inbox - hello@sorellacreative.com
☞ Find me in the hummus aisle at the supermarket (I'll be the girl buying 3 tubs)
Q Who is a creative you admire?
I don't know her personally, but the girl who runs @topgirl.studio. That account is like pure joy for my eyes. Oh, and @taylor.loren. I've followed her since her time at Later, and she's a major inspiration to me.
Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?
Social media, and also... taking time *off* social media.
