WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
I’ve always had the drive to work for myself. After graduating I worked at a number of digital agencies where I picked up some vital experience in project management, client communication and digital design.
Once I’d picked up a decent amount of knowledge, I jumped into freelancing! After building my Squarespace portfolio, and my experience working with other freelancers, I incorporated the business and we’re now a core team of three with big plans for growth!
Fundamentally though, I’ve never turned down an opportunity to learn new skills by saying yes to working on varied projects with clients and partners of all shapes and sizes.
How do you stand out in your field?
Your portfolio is, hands down, the best (and most important) way of standing out. I’ve always strived to make sure that I’m delivering the best possible service and end product that I can, in order stand out amongst other Squarespace sites.
When it comes to design and development on Squarespace (or Shopify), I’m *always* aiming for “Wait a sec, is this a Squarespace site?!” rather than just “Oh, this is a nice Squarespace site”.
In terms of working with clients, customer service and approachable collaboration is at the heart of everything I do - this helps us stand out in terms of overall client experience.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
We're currently developing a completely custom Shopify site, which we’re super excited to share with the world! We’re also working on a couple of custom Squarespace sites for a global Athlete publishing platform and AR company based in Sweden. A real mix!
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
Personally, I love clean and minimal sites that really celebrate a businesses main products or services. The Half Hitch Gin project we worked on is a perfect example of this! If possible, I love to get a bit of character/humour in there too :) Our own site is a pretty good example of this.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
I’d love to develop my public speaking skills so that I can get more involved in events!
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
Right now, I’d say my biggest challenge is probably online / digital marketing. With our recent rebrand, scheduling regular social media and blog content is more important than ever.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
👆Probably that stuff...
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
I’d love to talk to a mentor or consultant with an agency background about developing a growth strategy and clear roadmap for Noughts & Ones over the coming years.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
I’d really like to grow our eCommerce portfolio!
DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.
A big part of my plans for Noughts & Ones is to grow our partnerships with other creative agencies - I would love to collaborate with a creative agency on a project for a global brand that’s a household name.
WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?
When is comes to web design & build projects, we don’t price up with website ‘packages’ because every client and project is different. We take time at the beginning of the process to really understand our client’s challenges and put together a project that includes exactly the right services for them.
We do offer ad-hoc development/coding support for Squarespace & Shopify - this is based on a rates for this are £80/hr or £550/day (depending on the complexity of requirements).
