WHAT DO YOU DO?

My focus is usually digital.

Anything with a pixel in it! Creative strategy and visual design for anything that exists in the digital world (websites, mobile apps, user interfaces, etc.). From time to time I do some traditional print graphic design but my focus is usually digital.

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

I actually went to school to get a degree in computer science but along the way realized that I had a much stronger interest in Art/Visual design. Since graduation I've spent over a decade in the digital agency world working on a broad spectrum of clients including Target, Call of Duty, Allstate and the National Hockey League.

FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR FIELD, WHAT DO THEY USUALLY LACK?

I think the inability or unawareness to approach creative problems from multiple angles. This is especially true when you are a younger creative and get fixated on one potential solution. Pushing yourself to iterate on different solutions makes you a better designer and creative thinker.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

Just wrapped up a web site that allows families to find activities for kids and about to start a brand promotion piece in a few days.

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

A lot of times there are a lot of complex variables at the beginning of the project - my job is to figure out a creative approach that is able to distill the complexities into a brand experience that is simple and intuitive.

WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?

I wish I had more opportunities to do have my projects be more integrated across the different channels. While my speciality is within the digital, it's also a good challenge to create solutions for the screen-based world and for the tangible world.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

Since it's getting closer to April -  taxes and all the related documentation. Keeping track of all the different items that go into the docket for the accountant is a job in itself!

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HOUR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

I would have someone filter my emails.

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

I would have told my college-age self to take a few creative writing classes. Writing is a powerful form of creative expression and I wish I was better at it.

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

I'm always interested in how people manage client relationships when things go really terribly south. Hopefully I'll never have to use these insights - I've been pretty lucky so far.

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

I'm always up for anything!

WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?

Having great communication, the alignment of goals and constant collaboration is essential to having a successful experience.

WHAT IS YOUR RATE?

Usually I want to take some time and hear what the potential client wants/needs. From there I craft a quote that fits with the project scope.

HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?

An email that provides a brief overview of the project with the preferred budget. I'll respond fairly quick (I promise!) and we can set up a time for a phone meeting.

HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?

Go outside and get lost exploring.
