Q What do you do?
I currently run creative direction for the brand and all of our clients and also specialize as a marketing strategist, focused on cutting edge approaches combined with traditional tactics.
Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?
I started off in 2011 with my music blog that involved a few colleges in the San Francisco Bay Area called We Move Against The Tides, then pivoted more into focusing in the music industry working with companies such as Live Nation, Insomniac, AEG/Goldenvoice and more. I ran an artist management company, specifically focusing on creative approaches to marketing, called Counter Culture Group from 2013 - 2019. During that time, I worked to build careers and branding for artists such as Katzú Oso, Nicotine (of Nicotine's Famous Honey), and more. From 2019 - now, I've worked at social cause agencies working as a marketing point for Los Angeles campaigns for ballot measures such as Measure J and Measure ULA, organizations such as Black Lives Matter, and companies such as Lyft, Google, and more. My career has been built by marrying the synchronicity between qualitative and quantitative—the data and the story—to build marketing strategies and design approaches. Additionally, as a first-generation Mexican-American, I've built a team of people who come from a number of cultural backgrounds to lean into a multicultural approach in all the work we do.
Q How do you stand out in your field?
By focusing on and highlighting the marriage between storytelling and data analysis to find the strongest angle in marketing and creative.
Q What are you working on right now?
I'm currently working with clients such as Spaceland Presents, Live Nation, the County of Los Angeles, and more.
Q What’s your style?
Here's our agency deck: Agency Deck
Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?
I have a deep background in creative writing (spoken word, slam poetry, short essays and as a reporter), so always hoping to do more of that work when possible!
Q What is frustrating you right now?
I've been spending a lot of time working on automating project management tasks through Notion and Make, which has been a steep learning curve but extremely helpful in pushing processes forward.
Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?
Have them jump in on meetings with me to keep clients and myself set to an agenda.
Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?
I would have told 18 year old self that being a jack of all trades isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm generally pretty broad in my skillsets.
Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?
I'd love to hear more from other agency owners about their processes, their learnings, etc.
Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?
Hoping to work with brands that are interested in being creative in their marketing approach and open to optimizing consistently.
Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.
Would love to work with an organization on reaching their multicultural audiences through real representation and storytelling.
Q What is your rate?
We're typically looking for projects that are around $5k+/month for full marketing services (brand, design, ads, strategy, social, content, etc.), but always open to working with passionate clients.
Q How should someone approach you about working together?
Reach out! As much details about the project or an RFP is always appreciated.
