Q What do you do?

I’m a video director/editor and the founder of Stanton Productions - a full-service video production company.

We produce video content across all digital platforms. I get to collaborate with a network of talented creatives to create authentic, short and shareable videos for brands and agencies. I’m passionate about showcasing the essence of what makes brands unique while making them approachable.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

My mom is a successful business owner so I knew I wanted to be my own boss someday. After moving from Toronto to New York in 2009 and graduating from the New School’s Grad Program in Media Studies, I started freelancing as a video editor. I took on anything I could get my hands on to grow my portfolio - music videos, event recaps, docu-style features. I quickly realized that having to edit other people’s footage was a nightmare. Being unhappy with the quality of footage I was getting to work with, I started going out there and shooting myself. I bought a camera and taught myself to shoot. Once I learned how to be a one- woman show, I could finally tell a brand’s story from storyboard to final cut and I loved it! I’ve always loved documentaries, and was interested in New Yorkers and how their personal spaces and /objects give you a glimpse into who they are. My first personal project was a web series called Places and Faces. Once I developed my own style, clients and budgets grew. I started Stanton Productions to take my business to the next level, and from the start it’s been important to me that the brand and our work reflects my personal values - diversity, genuine connection, inclusion, authenticity and collaboration. We now produce content for beauty, fashion, lifestyle, wellness brands and more.

Q How do you stand out in your field?

I would say I have a strong sense of how things flow in the edit. Having started out as a video editor, I direct with an idea of knowing exactly what I need to get to tell the story.

Q What are you working on right now?

Right now I’m wrapping up a few projects, including some fun videos spotlighting up and coming artists for a Spotify x Sephora collab for People Magazine.

Q What’s your style?

My brand is mini-documentaries that are short, sharp, and shareable. They have to feel authentic from start to finish. I like to bring in a lot of subtle off-moments captured on footage to subtly introduce characteristics of who the subjects are. Could be a simple glance or a small gesture, these subtle elements can really capture someone’s essence.

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

I would love to start an off-shoot dog talent agency for commercial work with my best friend.

Q What is frustrating you right now?

I know it’s an important part of having a business but I have a mental block when it comes to self-promotion sometimes. I’m working on making it second nature to want to share my work organically.

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

Social media posts, biz dev outreach and project management. Know anyone?

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

A fear years into my freelance career in 2015 - If someone doesn’t want to compensate you fairly, say no. You didn’t lose a client, you just opened up space for a better opportunity!

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

I would love to watch Wong Kar-wai on set

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

I would love to work with an Asian-owned brand to create an empowering docu-style video campaign.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

An ideal client would be a brand or agency that values lasting partnerships, diversity in front of and behind the lens, and a balance between creative control and brand ethos.

Q What is your rate?

Stanton Productions works with brands and agencies with different budgets depending on the project, so we’d love to chat! For directing and editing, I’m open to variable project rates when working with individuals, small businesses, non profits and any project that I feel a connection to.

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

Reach out to me directly and we can set up a time to connect at victoria@stantonproductions.com

Q Who is a creative you admire?

Mary Perrino. She's been my go-to colorist for the past 7 years and is the most talented and I love working with her so much <3

Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?

Saying yes to do random things to push your comfort zone. And I walk around a lot.
