Orbits is seeking an ambitious, creative, witty and well-informed human to join our industry-shattering tech startup! You’ll be working with a small but mighty multidisciplinary team of inventors, creators and believers (non-culty). We are passionate about creating a new world standard for the virtual aspects of our lives, and we need your help to spread the word (again, it’s really a startup, not a cult).

This is a freelance role and the ideal candidate will be available to work 2 days (16 hours) a week, with the opportunity to expand in future. We are very flexible with working hours - half days are a possibility. Immediate start preferred.

OVERVIEW

In this role, you will be responsible for executing our PR strategy and generating media coverage to drive awareness and excitement around our virtual venues and metaverse platform. You will also be responsible for writing and curating engaging content across our digital channels.

Our ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the tech and business media landscape, strong writing and editing skills, and a hunger to secure high-profile media placements. They will also be a creative thinker who can develop our brand voice via attention-grabbing ideas and stories, working closely with our leadership team and creative director to make ideas a reality.


THE NUTS & BOLTS

Tech/business press outreach and general media

  • Weekly responsibilities include proactively driving press activity and communications content in line with business development, marketing campaigns and initiatives.


Reactive PR

  • Monitor daily journo calls for sources and pitch wherever there’s opportunity


Proactive PR

  • New press release monthly - pitch ideas directly to our CCO and CEO, draft copy, send out release, follow up two to three times with direct emails to journalists

  • Connect with journalists directly, find out what they are working on, and how we can contribute

  • Pitch thought leadership pieces

  • Pitch to podcasts

  • Monitor for relevant opportunities such as media awards

  • Keep the press outreach database up-to-date with new contacts and notes on outreach


Reporting

  • Share progress on any earned media

  • Add press coverage to the coverage tracker and calculate value


Social Media Responsibilities

  • Manage the social media calendar - aim for a consistent flow of content in order to grow our audience. Write three posts per week for Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.

  • Cover three content pillars: Features, Testimonials, Events

  • Like and follow other accounts, and generally encourage engagement

  • Manage the occasional social ad campaign

Within 18 months our startup has created immersive virtual and hybrid venues for the United Nations, Microsoft and ASUS, and many more.
