Customizing the Lock Screen

Did you know the Password Lock Screen can be customized? This is a great way to create a branded lock screen for your clients!

Why style it? Say you’re working on a website but it isn’t ready and you haven’t published it yet. BUT you have the fancy custom domain connected to your Squarespace account and you want people to see something when they visit the URL so they know they’re at the right place (i.e. it matches those gold foil business cards you spent a small fortune on). With the lock screen customization features, you can add a logo image, a background image and stylized text (e.g. a message like “Website coming soon” or “Site under construction” or “Hold your horses my website is almost done” etc.). The page’s main function is still to access the website via a password, but you can turn it into a fun landing page to build excitement while you’re in the process of creating website magic.

Start by creating a site-wide password. Here is a step-by-step on how to do so!

After you’ve set your site-wide password, go to Design > Lock Screen to customize:

  • Layout: Select a layout

  • Branding & Text: Add logo, headline, body text and lock

  • Media: Add a background image or video

  • Style: Adjust fonts, colors and sizes
