Reviewing Custom Sites

Reviewing your custom site is Puno’s favorite part of the course. She loves seeing what students create and how they let their creative sparks fly. To get the most out of your 1:1 feedback with Puno, we’ve created a checklist of things Puno always looks for in custom sites. This will help guide you into knowing whether it’s time to submit your site.

Checklist before you submit:

  • Button Cohesiveness

  • Font Styling

  • Spacing

  • Copy

  • Photography / Videography / Illustrations

  • Footer

  • Forms

  • Mobile

  • Overall Brand Direction

  • Opportunities to zhuzh and take it out of template zone

  • NOT crazy amount of code (“Not discouraging it but also I didn’t make over six figures because I could code. There’s so much more you can do with design but you need to let go that code is the only way to make a great website” — Puno)

  • NOT PERFECTION

Examples of Puno’s student submission reviews

Watch a few custom site reviews by Puno to get an idea of what she's looking for, how she encourages you to push your designs, and some recommendations of what direction you can go in based on your design aesthetic (that you submitted in your intro form).

Adrianna - SEVA Coffee Pass 1

In this video message, I discuss Adriana's website design and provide feedback on various elements. We explore different sections of the website, such as Wigglylarworld, journal, and SEVA coffee. I share my thoughts on the layout, fonts, images, and overall aesthetics. Additionally, I suggest ideas for improvement and encourage Adriana to experiment with different styles and directions.

I wanted to give you some feedback on the design changes you made. Overall, I love the progress you've made and the mobile improvements are great. However, I feel like we're missing an opportunity to make a bigger impact. I suggest making the logo larger and adjusting the spacing to make it stand out more. I also have some thoughts on the background and font choices.

Berkley - Miss Spritzies Pass 1

Puno suggests making the logo larger and playing around with big font sizes on the homepage. She does a deeper dive into font explorations and finds fun and playful fonts on Pinterest.

Berkley - Miss Spritzies Pass 2

So many improvements! Puno really enjoyed the playfulness of the site with the use of big fonts, imagery and a retro vibe. Go big or go hoooome!

Jess - Humani Pass 1

In this video, I'll be going through each site and giving you my thoughts and suggestions. I'll be highlighting the things I love and pointing out areas where you could make some improvements. Overall, your sites are clean, stylish, and showcase your design skills.

Jess - Humani Pass 1

In this video, I discuss the changes you made to the website design. Overall, I love the clean and simple look, especially with the sans-serif font. The warm and inviting feel is still present, and I suggest adding more human faces and videos to enhance it further.
