I took the Graphic Design Course because as a very recent post grad that graduated with a BFA in Illustration and is still preparing her illustration portfolio, I decided to pivot to design or at least expand my scope to design. The only experience I've ever had with design was the design classes I took in college. So, I wanted to continue my education and learn something a bit more practical.
I think when it came to creating each project from scratch, it was at first a hurdle, but now, with repeated processes, I'm a bit more comfortable with designing. I've learned that as an artist and human being, I will always be learning and improving despite my level of experience right now.
My favorite thing about the course were the weekly online meetings (available only through the Graphic Design Spring Program). They were a great way for me to get direct and quick feedback on projects and also made me feel less alone and not feel so under-equipped.
I would say go for it to anyone thinking about taking the course. As a starting point in my design journey, it was very helpful.
One good thing that’s come out of this course for me is that I've finally finished my portfolio that I have been building from scratch since this year started, and I can happily say that I am done. I will continue to update, but at least I have a portfolio. Before, I had no work to show when applying for design jobs, but now I have something.
